Capital one contact update
I received this email this morning and went through proper channels to verify authenticity and called them promptly.
I thought this was just to verify a few little things but this quickly turned into a 30 minute interrogation about deposits, transfers, sources of deposits, why we (it's a joint account with spouse) are transferring money etc.
We have only had deposits from work, from a normal paying job. We tend to move money back and forth between capital one and another bank we use. Our capital one has mainly been used to write checks to rent and a few bills that can't be paid via card.
We had a work bonus which happens every year around the same time and for the same amount and this year we quickly moved it to savings as we're anticipating a big move from our current state to another. The deposit wasn't huge or anything but it would cover a few smaller moving expenses.
The conversation quickly shot focus to the bonus deposit, grilling us about the source..which is obvious because it says right on it our employer and that it is a bonus. Then we were grilled about why we moved it and what we spent it on. It felt extremely invasive.
We refused to answer any questions because 1. It's no one's business what we do. 2. It's our money. 3. We haven't done anything wrong 4. The representative was really rude and pushy.
I'm just at a loss on this one. My spouse says it's just routine and they are probably fishing to offer us different products and services with capital one, which may also be true but they also just kept asking really personal questions and wanted to know about where we're transferring money, why and what were doing with it and how were spending our money.
My main concern is if I need to move our direct deposits because we are legit paycheck to paycheck. I'm worried we're going to wake up to a locked account and we won't be able to spend our money, make rent or a utility payment because they are being weird.
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this or has banking experience to give me some insight to calm my nerves.
