CLI is ridiculous with Capital One

I have checking & savings account with capital and I love the set up and the HYSA is pretty decent I guess, also have 4 CCs thru them and that’s where my issue comes into play. I spend money on my cards, my savor I got in February and spent well over $6k on that card alone. And yes, I tried that little bs trick of letting a balance report then pay off and nothing.

I hope they don’t ruin discover, I really hope

I use my Amex gold and synchrony MC more these days because unlike capital, synchrony gives massive increases very frequently

Locked out while the fraudster spends — thanks, Capital One

Does Capital One even take security seriously?

To preface — I work in cybersecurity. I don’t reuse passwords, and I use MFA everywhere. No other accounts of mine have been compromised — yet my Capital One account has been taken over four times in two months. I have 4 cards with them.

Each time, the attacker:

  • Resets my password
  • Changes my contact info
  • Creates virtual cards
  • Runs up charges on all 4 cards

Each time, I spend hours on the phone, regain access, get new cards issued… and the next day my account is hijacked again.

Twice now, they’ve refused to reissue certain cards or even accept my fraud report until I send them a copy of my driver’s license and a bank statement — while the attacker keeps spending freely.

Right now I’m locked out again while the fraudster still has access. Capital One won’t let me reset my password until new cards arrive (via snail mail — and they wanted to charge me to overnight them), and they’re still approving charges while I wait.

Honestly, it feels like they don’t take security seriously at all.

Student Looking For Advice

Hello, I am a college student interested in building credit! I have used Capital One for checking since I was 13 and now a Sophomore in college, I think now is the time I should be building credit. I recently got the Savor Student card promotion in the mail, and after looking into it, I think it's a great Idea. I have been approved for the card, I am just wondering if it is a good idea. I have a source of income currently, albeit only about 15k yearly(hopefully have something lined up soon), it is enough for me as I do not pay for my education. If this is not what this sub is for then please take this post down, otherwise I am very grateful for any advice. Thanks :)

Breaking the algorithms

So, in early April I applied for a Capital One Venture and to my surprise I was approved and given a $10,000 CL. Here is why I believe this breaks the algorithms. My FICO at the time was only around a 630 and I had filed Ch 7 bankruptcy 2 years prior and had not applied for any credit whatsoever since then. I was shocked to be approved for a more premium rewards card!

Fast-forward to tonight! I am a remodel contractor and have been for many years. I have read the forums and the sensus says Cap 1 makes you wait 6 months to apply for another card. I am not the most patient person when I want something. So, I decided to try the preapproval tool for the Spark 2% cash back business card and got exactly the same result! I am pumped! I wanted to focus on Capitol 1 as my main source for cards and now I have been blessed with nice starting limits on both of the cards I wanted.

My current FICO score is sitting at 663. I have used the Venture card like crazy over the last few of months. I have run the card up and paid it off each month. I surpassed the 90 day bonus and received the 75,000 bonus miles in the first 30 days. I have already spent close to $40,000 on the Venture Card but I pay it down before the statement closes so it reports lower amounts. I have over 157k points already.

Not sure how this information might help others as it seems I have managed to somehow break the normal algorithms for Cap 1. That said, i wanted to put this out there since I am on my credit and business rebuilding journey and I have read a lot of posts during the process. Hopefully this helps someone!

Quite happy and surprised!

Just applied and for the Savor with 10k limit! Got my venture back in late January/Early February this year w/ 15k. Base stats are 21y/o, 25k income. Other things on credit report are a small affirm loan that has been complete, my car payment, and my first credit card for a small limit from my credit union. Kinda shocked C1 has given me these. Now to make sure I don't spend it all ahahaha

Can't Activate Savor Card from Abroad

Hi all,

I've seen some threads with this issue for most CapOne cards, but I've been really struggling to get my card verified. I don't have the physical copy with me, as it was delayed and came in the mail a day after I left for The Netherlands for a month-long study abroad program. I've got the card information and have tried so many ways to add it to my Apple Wallet, but it simply won't go through.

Things I've tried:

  • Turning off my Airalo e-sim, turning on my Verizon cellular plan, and going through Apple Wallet to verify. Nope, "we can't activate your card at this time".
  • Turning off everything but my e-sim. Nope. Can't receive calls or texts through iMessage, so I can't get the code.
  • Calling to verify with cellular (+ & - e-sim). No. The call either cut out halfway through or the robot told me to activate with the app. Then what is the point of having it as an option??
  • Talking to the weird robot AI chatbot on the website. Turns out it's in beta and only directs me to the most pitiful FAQ I've ever seen on a website.
  • Can't call customer service because I don't have international cellular. The hour I turned on my Verizon plan was already a huge cost. I'm using WhatsApp while I'm here.
  • I checked other reddit threads and followed some advice: I downloaded SurfShark VPN, switched my location to the U.S., and tried going through Wallet. Nope, doesn't solve my 'can't recieve calls or texts through iMessage' problem. Tried turning of my European e-sim. Didn't work.
  • Tried the above solution but with my U.S. plan and without the e-sim. Nope.
  • I have a U.S. phone number, so having an abroad one only like some expats/immigrants in the other threads isn't the issue.
  • Of course, I tried to track down a customer service email, but there isn't one. C'mon.

This has been pretty frustrating. The card was supposed to come with me on this trip, but it was delayed by over a week in the mail so this wasn't an issue I was expecting. I ordered it because my first card was a Discover, which hasn't been working in Europe. (As I knew going in!) I've been using my parents' card and keeping track of what to send back to them, but it's very stressful owing people money. I also wanted to make use of the first-three-month spending bonus, since this is about the only time I ever spend this much!

Sorry for the long post. It's been frustrating! I'm having the card mailed to me, but I'm here for 3-4 weeks more and I'm not sure how fast international mail works, especially since I'm not in a major city.

TLDR:

  • I don't have the physical card yet.
  • I don't have an international phone plan, just the Airalo European Union E-Sim.
  • Because of the above, I can't receive iMessages or cellular phone calls without being charged out the wazoo. WhatsApp has been my main method of communication.
  • :((((((

Thank you in advance for any help!!

Request a student product change?

I currently have a capitol one unsecured platinum card with a 300$ limit and about 4 months worth of usage. I regret not choosing the student card like the savor one or quick silver. Has anyone ever been able to request a product change over to one of these student cards without a hard inquiry or new account?

Secured card graduated to another secured card but deposit has been returned?

I’m not sure if this is in error or not. I got the card late Jan and suddenly got this email yesterday. Logged into my app to notice that the deposit had indeed been refunded! However, the email says secured to secured - unsure if this is a regular occurrence! Thoughts?

$25k settlement @18 yrs old. What do I do ?

2 years ago my junior year of HS Oct.2024 i was involved in a terrible hit-and-run bike accident in NY which forced me to stop playing Basketball and go to physical therapy for over an year. Long story short driver never found filed a lawsuit already had a lawyer at the time ended up sueing and won. I just graduated high school this past June and also just turned 18 this past may which now that im of age i was able to get my lawsuit check which settled for $25k 7-8k was my attorney percentage and the rest is mine which im left with $17.2k. Now I’ve waited about a month to deposit my check which i did on Wednesday because I didn’t wanna be impulsive with my spending I wanted to sit and think before I do because I don’t know when I’ll ever receive another check like this anytime soon. I’m going to school trade school specifically and only have to take out a $13k loan that i myself have to pay i was qualified for financial aid so that did help a lot with that being said i have a couple of questions

• I have 4 accounts
• TD bank checking & savings
• Chase bank regular checking which is a car maintenance fund i save and put money away for a car or my car I’m considering fixing
• Just created a fidelity brokerage account $0 in there as of right now
• I also got approved day of my birthday for capital one platinum CC $300 limit

• Right off the bat how much do i keep for myself ? Checkings & savings
• How do i set myself up for the future ?
• Do i spread this across different accounts?
• What do i do with this money ?
• how do I make my money earn money ?

P.S. I opened up a HYSA with capital one. They have a 3.00% APY

Discovered I had an overdrawn account with Capital One since I was 18

Last month I applied for a Capital One Quicksilver cash back card and was approved for a secured version of it. They just recently confirmed they got my security deposit and are shipping me my card. When I set up online access I was told I needed to recover my account so I did and discovered I have a checking account that's been sitting at -41.76. It turns out a dispute I made on it got reversed and they brought my account negative but since I never really used it for much I didn't find out until now. I plan on paying it off when I get paid again but what are the chances they allow me to use my checking account again? It's been overdrawn for three years

Capital One Price Prediction Tool. Good Or Bad?

I've been waiting for a flight when the specific flight was around $750 (family had already booked it but myself and 2 others). I looked at Capital One's Price Prediction Tool, and it told me to wait on purchasing the tickets. 1 month has now gone by, and it's now over $900. My flight is around November. Has anyone tried this price prediction tool and has it pulled through?

Statement balance is more than current balance

My VX statement balance is $1500 but my current balance is $1400. I’m assuming I still need to pay the statement balance.

I have used a few travel eraser credits this statement, is that why it’s thrown it off?

Is this “Spend $50, get $50” offer legit?

Is it just as simple as I spend $50 on the CapitalOne card and I get $50 back? Does it need to be on product alone? (e.g. Would I get $50 back if I spend $40 on the product and $10 on shipping?) It says no clearance items, but basically the whole website is on sale, so would it be denied for that?

Sorry for all the questions, I’m new to CapitalOne :) Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸🦅

Savor One no signup bonus

Saw the spend 500 get 250 offer on the Savor One and got the card 3 months ago in May. Called today to ask about my bonus. The agent send there is no bonus associated with my account. Also confirmed with the agent that my card is the regular Savor One. Not the Savor One for good credit. I guess look twice before accepting your card when you apply. Definitely deceptive advertising.

CapitalOne banking app question

So the Capital One bank website has started integrating the use of passkeys for security purposes. However, the Capital One banking app still uses phone number for 2FA. Why is that? Research shows that verification codes via phone number can easily be intercepted. When can we expect for the passkey feature to translate to the app?
