Why was my post locked? Am I not even allowed to speak about this topic on AusJDocs?

How are doctors of all people not allowed to speak out about human rights abuses? : r/ausjdocs

Was working a long shift and didn't even get a chance to reply.

Didn't get a message from mods. I don't think I broke any rules, was pretty specific in my wording not to. I deliberately avoided even mentioning any groups for the above reason.

But I thought we were allowed to discuss things of concern here? This is getting to a pretty ridiculous level now.

Medicine = saving lives
BUT at the same time doctors = banned from speaking about saving lives.........
This is getting a bit ridiculous.

Generally I have been happy with the moderation of this subreddit and I think the mod(s) have been doing a great job, but this concerns me about the whole situation even more now.

How are doctors of all people not allowed to speak out about human rights abuses?

These latest AHPRA changes (https://www.reddit.com/r/ausjdocs/comments/1ulh7bs/i_love_paying_1000year_for_justin_untersteiner_to/) really make my blood boil.

One of the reasons I got into this profession was to spend my life doing something beneficial for society.

But these changes feel like they want to silence me and turn me into a corporate drone that goes to work, does what I am told and toes the party line. Basically handing over my conscious to someone else.

In so many historical cases I always wondered how did XYZ type of people stand by and remain silent when atrocities happened, but now I understand - because they were threatened with losing their job they worked years for, and by extension their family's livelihood.

Before someone says you can still say this or that, look at the way the linked post is written. It will not only have the effect of making people not criticise certain groups, but it will also make them think twice so that they don't travel too close to the sun - and doctors being as risk averse as we are, have the impact of silencing us.

Even if you follow the new "rules" completely and the possibly biased regulator finds you not guilty, no one wants to deal with the emotional stress of a protracted investigation.

I know I am speaking in the moment, but I almost wish I became a tradie. They don't get muzzled and at least have some personal freedom.

It's not like we live in some dictatorship. We live in Australia of all places and I can't believe this sort of thing can happen.

Are we allowed to be rude back to rude patients?

I work in a private clinic.

98% lovely patients, but 2% are the most rude, entitled people.

Are we allowed to match their rudeness with rudeness back, or do we have to put on a "customer service" demeanour at all times and cop their poor behaviour and return it with kindness?

Am I at least allowed to be passive aggressive in return?

Is HCF My Family Silver Plus appropriate?

https://www.hcf.com.au/content/dam/hcf/pdf/brochures/HCF-My-Family-Silver-Plus.pdf

Hi all,
I am wanting to get this for myself for birth with private obs/gyn care for our next pregnancy.
+ get basic cover for my husband (plus kids) for Medicare Levy Surcharge purposes.

I work in healthcare and we understand the pros/cons/limitations of public vs private maternity. We still do want to go private for the next pregnancy.

HCF seems like the cheapest. But comparing policies honestly seems so confusing.

Any nasties I need to watch out for?

Thank in advance :)

Is (employer) maternity leave payment including when calculating borrowing capacity?

My wife will be earning around (annualised) 40k p.a. for her maternity leave. Can we include that to increase our borrowing power?

Thanks in advance

This subreddit is mainly investors or owners and not FHBs.

There is no genuine support for FHBs on this subreddit. There IS a lot of fake concern for FHBs here.

I posted the EXACT (word for word) same thread about prices going down (and some weak evidence which showed prices are dropping) in this subreddit and in AusFinance.

I wanted to see if this subreddit was in favour of FHBs or in favour of investors or multiple property owners.

It was also written in language which supported prices dropping.
- upvotes would suggest people wanted prices to drop
- lack of upvotes would suggest people did not want the above

Results:

AusPropertyChat:
Net 0 upvotes.

AusFinance
Net 252 upvotes.

Clearly, this subreddit wants to keep prices up (despite a lot of pretend talk about supporting FHBs).

I found it interesting - as people here claimed to be in favour of FHBs and prices reducing. I guess this is not what they actually feel and it is just lip service.

FWIW I am not a FHB, already own property, and one is being rented out. I still believe these prices rises are unhealthy for society. I don't have a personal issue with investors (being one, and honestly, with the previous tax rules property was the easy choice).

But can we at least be honest here and stop pretending people want one thing but actually hoping for the opposite.

Yesterday's price is not today's price. The pre-May Market is not the post-May market. The sooner sellers start to realise this, the better for everyone.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

~20 houses in me REA.com watch list have been sitting stagnant, unsold since early May 😍 Only 1 sold in this time.

Others are going from e.g. offers > 1.5M to offers > 1.4M and still not selling.
Many have stopped having regular open homes / inspections and now are contact agent for a time.

Times are changing on the ground.

my*, watchlist*

So much content to cover for RACGP Viva (CCE) Exams - approach?

Hi all,

I am doing practice for the RACGP CCE Exam.

I have my structure down pat.
But the issue I am having is the sheer amount of different conditions that are coming up on practice cases.

E.g. today I was doing some cases and what came up where

- normal pressure hydrocephalus (never come across this before, didn't know much about it until looking it up - now I know the symptoms, it's an "easy" exam diagnosis, but only after reading about it)

- Juvenile Idiopathic Arthiritis

- hemorrhagic cysts / endometriosis / fertility (I don't get to see much women's health as there are plenty of female doctors and women's health clinics around) - I can probably get through this one but likely it won't be very smooth.

I am concerned one of the cases will be something I don't have much experience with and I will fumble through the case / miss the diagnosis or do the wrong management for.

Obviously I can't refer to guidelines during the exams, so it's different to day to day practice.

What should I do if I just don't know what the condition and its management is?

Thanks in advice for any help.

Who can I consult to screen a block for me to make sure a granny flat is buildable? And how long should a build take?

I have been trying to find a dual living type home in my area for some time, to accommodate aging parents (Brisbane).

Looked over the last year, and there just isn't much in my local area going (saw 3 within the last 1x year, and all were auction and I was scared of bidding unconditional).

I am now looking instead to just buy a house with land and build a granny flat.

Q1: Is there a service e.g. urban planner or architect I can hire prior to putting in an offer that will tell me if the land is suitable / meets council requirements for a granny flat
- I have googled it and it involves e.g. 50% max GFA coverage of the lot, setbacks etc. I just don't want to stuff it up for a large purchase which would be a disaster.

Q2: How long would a granny flat take to build these days

Q3: How much to budget $ for a granny flat for 2x 80 year olds?

Q4: Is a nice brick granny flat significantly more expensive? I.e. most granny flats I see are wood and cheap internals. How much more would it cost to build one that resembles the main house and felt like an actual home?

TIA!

Is it difficult to get a 2nd house with a different lender than the first? What is the process.

  1. I have 1x house with lender A
  2. I don't really like lender A's service
  3. However, lender A has the best rates.
  4. I have contacted lender B, who have slightly worse rates, but much better service.
  5. I am not wanting to go with lender A again for the new purchase, as during the 1st purchase they took so long and I required an extension to the finance clause and it was a mess. It was very stressful.

Would it be possible to

  1. Keep the current home with lender A (as they have the best rates)
  2. Withdraw equity from the home with lender A
  3. Use this equity to a purchase of a new home with lender B

?

What is the process for doing this.
I.e. once I have a signed contract and 2 weeks finance period, who does what in what order.

How does the "equity:" get transferred from Lender A to Lender B

With grandfathering, does the loan being an IP or PPOR have any effect on deductability?

I have 1x IP - rented out (bought 2 years ago)
I am living in a rental (i.e. not my house) interstate at the moment.
I am wanting to buy a 2nd house.
I am wanting to move back home and into 1 of the houses - but I am not sure which yet.

The current IP is negatively geared.

When I purchase the 2nd house
- is it better for the new house to be a PPOR loan (and current house to be an IP loan)
- or is it better for the current house to remain an IP loan (and the new house to be a PPOR loan)
- does it matter which is which (will one being a PPOR loan prevent it being tax deductable).

TIA!
