[Online] [2024 5e] [Homebrew] [Friday Nights] [EST] [18+] Need 1-2 More Adventurers to Brave The Wilds

Hello! And welcome to everyone who decided to take the time to read this. As four drops to three, I come in search of a couple more to fill the ranks! I run on Fridays with an 8:30 EST start time and usually go on till about midnight, sometimes 1 am if players are feeling up for it.

We use the D&D 5e 2024 ruleset and all books. Feel free to use a 2014 class or spell so long as it is adapted to 2024, and I can access its source with relative ease. If you are new to D&D, you are welcome to join, but I'd advise looking elsewhere; my game can get overcomplicated with the homebrew I have added, and it may suit you more to stick to a more standard game. We use Discord for voice and Roll20 for a virtual tabletop. While you don't need to be particularly familiar with Roll20, a basic understanding would be appreciated.

I will just hop right into a TLDR of the world, as that's what we're all here for:

The lands beneath your feet have been trodden by unnumbered souls. Even a quiet walk through the countryside reveals the scars of time: crumbling ruins, blasted craters, and stretches of land made barely livable by the countless battles waged upon them.

But the most recent, the one that has been passed down from generation to generation, The Great War... that one was different. The marks it had left changed it all; societies collapsed, the gods fell silent, and the mortal plane was plunged into shadows dark as night. For a month that dark endured, only lit up from the radiance of celestials and the fire of fiends. But when that veil was lifted... There was no relief. The light that was shed revealed a world torn asunder. Sick, aberrant things were left to wander... a corruption of the land, of the air, of the water.... of the people, began to fester and the world rotted from the inside out.

But times have changed, and the world has since healed. A millennium has passed since the end of The War, and the mortals of the world have drifted away from the pantheon of deities of old. The gods who have allowed them to suffer are now silent. There are still some, of course, who follow them, but the followers are either scattered or concentrated in particular regions, and most of all, there are few of them. But a land is spoken of in tales of glory, the land of Umbria. Here, kingdoms of old still stood tall, and the lands were still green and fertile. Many sought it out, often from the evils at home, or simply at the hope of trying their own hand at forging a life for themselves.

So that's the TLDR of the setting, it is very much a post-grimdark world, things are bleak but slowly getting better. The primary location is this little corner of the world, Umbria, other places exist, of course, just firmly locked in a grimdark as opposed to here. I have made a homebrew 'corruption' system as well, so be prepared to deal with that should you join. I hope for it to be in equal parts a RP - Exploration - Combat, but combat may be slightly more prevalent than the other two.

**About Your DM:**

I finally get to the introductions. Hello! You can call me Buckets or Garrik (He/Him), whichever floats your boat. I'm 21, and I've been playing D&D for a little under two years now, and let me just say: Awesome. I've joined up with an awesome group of people with whom I've grown to be pretty close friends through it, and even joined each other's games. Cause of this group of awesome folks, I've come to acclimate myself quickly, picking up the game, getting in reps enough to feel comfortable enough to run. I’ve been running for almost a year at this point, ball is rolling, etc., etc.

**Extra Info:**

Party level is currently 6. There are 3 people active in the game and 1 on the way out due to scheduling conflicts— current party composition is Trickery Domain Cleric, Berserker Barbarian, Glory Paladin.

Currently, the party is dealing with a group of some evil ahh green hags attempting to ascend themselves to be a higher power hag— they’ll be dealing with specialized homebrew abilities and lairs but no coven magic because of reasons specific to their situation. If I get you situated to join in while the gang is still dealing with it you could either stumble in there as others being hired to do so, or thralls they free, or other kidnapped folks/deals gone wrong. Either way I’d advise against making it a major part of your story as it’s being dealt with immediately.

I will be making you a custom magic item and some other small features inherent to your PC (think like how characters gain inspiration or adv on checks based on background) so the more I get to work with and sort of use the better it will feel like in play.

**Expectations**

First thing’s first, my game deals with mature content, hence the 18+. I don’t expect there to be any problems in regard to content but fair warning there is descriptions of gore, body horror, violence, etc. If there’s something that is particularly problematic for you then we can discuss it as needed, I want to keep my game a mature and respectful space.

Next up, as said before, we use Discord and Roll20, as such you need a stable internet connection and half decent mic quality. If you’re not familiar with roll20 that’s fine, we can help you out but your sheet will need to be on there, I’ve made an attempt with the DnD beyond stuff and it’s more of a headache than it’s worth. We all meet weekly and if you can’t consistently make it on time, this isn’t the game for you.

Lastly, the game is more of a sandbox than anything, the plot is what you and your fellow adventurers make of it. I will be putting stuff in front of you but it will certainly help if you as a character have a goal that you intend to accomplish or you as a player have a concept or story in mind you wish to explore. Otherwise the game just sort of devolves into monster of the week or I railroad as a DM, which is just a bad time for everyone.

———————————————

So! If this has caught your interest and you have yet to doze off, feel free to DM me or leave a comment on the post, and I'll get to ya when I can. You can drop a small intro, maybe a character concept. Of course, feel free to ask questions I may have missed addressing in the post. Thanks for reading, and good luck out there!
