Calculus/ plaque on gum graft question

F 35 non smoker, occasional drinker

hi! I had a gum graft on my lower two front teeth with tissue from the roof of my mouth. I am at week seven and I have some concerns. I still had a stitch or two left so I went to my perio last week to have them removed. I also had calculus on the back of my two teeth from where the stitches were and not being able to brush properly I guess. I have never had calculus before. the hygienist removed it. the last two days my gums especially the right one where my perio said I still have some recession at my four week appt are itchy and burning feeling a bit and the backs of my teeth where the calculus was removed feels a little sore. is this all normal? I’m also brushing the area with a surgical toothbrush and obviously not using my front teeth to bite/chew but I can’t tell if I have some plaque by gum graft or if it’s just the graft. As long as I’m brushing the area should it be okay? My perio ensures me I can’t hurt the graft with that toothbrush but I don’t trust him lol

hi! this is my first time on Reddit so I hope I’m doing this correctly. I had a connective tissue gum graft on my front two lower teeth five weeks ago. one was really bad (had a gum graft on it about 12 years ago) and recession was starting on the tooth next to it so my perio included that tooth too. I have extreme dental anxiety so this was not easy for me.

The procedure hurt and I felt like my perio was about to put his knee on my chest to hold me down as he was pulling the stitches tight (or that’s what I assumed he was doing). I wound up with three jelly clots that were easily wiped off and stopped bleeding. I did everything I was supposed to do during the first two weeks that he told me to do along with allllll the other stuff I saw online. I lived on bone broth, applesauce and mashed potatoes essentially. No working out, no bending forward, no hot foods, spicy, acidic, hard, crunchy, sticky, chewy. No alcohol for first week, although I didn’t have any alcohol until day 16 and that was only a glass of wine. I don’t smoke or do any kind of drugs. Slept propped on couch for 4 weeks so I didn’t accidentally roll onto my stomach. Got stitches out at 2 weeks and that helped relieve some pain. During third week my lower right jaw was killing me to the point of shaking from pain (I’ve had 9 surgeries and have pins and rods so I can handle pain). I went in and he said it’s nothing with my gum graft and it looked good. I also had been barely moving my mouth due to fear of messing up graft. For my four week check up he said it looks like some recession still on one tooth and to come back in 3 months, gave me soft toothbrush and told me to go back to normal. I cried in the car. This has been so traumatic. I’m at five and a half weeks now. I gently pull my lip away from my teeth to make sure I’m getting plaque off while brushing. My gums don’t look like what other people’s look like at this time. No signs of infection. Just some tenderness or kinda like stinging like a healing wound. At the gum line it looks a little off white/yellow and slightly red on the gum line where I’m assuming he scraped. I have weird twinges in my chin occasionally. I am losing my mind with worry. I’ve been taking vitamins, drinking lots of water, started taking 1000 mg of vit c the last week. My mom said we heal slower due to health issues but my anxiety is taking over. Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something? Is healing way slower for some people? My perio just kinda brushes me off so I don’t know if he has experience with anxiety ridden people or he doesn’t care and I don’t see him again until end of July.
