HTML5 & VR/AR Compatibility: Worth It or Waste?

I’ve noticed I have a pretty bad habit when developing assets: I never consider HTML5 or VR/AR compatibility when building them.

Most of my focus goes into standard PC/console workflows, and I usually only think about those platforms.

I’m wondering how much I’m actually limiting myself by doing this.

For those of you who ship assets or tools across multiple platforms:

Is it worth actively targeting HTML5 and/or VR/AR from the start?

How much extra maintenance does it usually add in practice?

Are there common pitfalls that make it significantly more time-consuming later on?

I currently have no hands-on experience with either HTML5 or VR/AR deployment, so I’m trying to understand if it’s something I should start planning for early, or treat it as a completely separate pipeline after my development on the other platforms.

Would be interested to hear real-world experiences on this.

I’ve been working on a real-time Petrification Game Kit system in Unreal Engine 5 (stone, ice, burn, etc.), and I just put together a short trailer for it.

I would be very interested to hear your feedback on this.

Of course, I will happy to share more about how it works if anyone’s interested.

Thank you in advance!
