QC Update — Our Responsibility, Our Checks, and Our Guarantee

We’ve seen the recent EXD SL3001 QC post and the concerns raised in the comments.

First, we want to be very clear: if a customer receives a Watchdives watch with a genuine manufacturing or QC problem, we will take responsibility for it.

The customer in this case can return the watch to our overseas warehouse, and we will send a brand-new replacement directly from China.

We have also rechecked our current EXD inventory. At this stage, we have not found evidence that this is a widespread issue. However, even one watch arriving with an unacceptable QC problem deserves a serious investigation.

About our QC process

Every EXD SL3001 already goes through checks including:

  • Movement startup and automatic winding
  • Hand-winding feel
  • Timekeeping
  • Date alignment from 1–31
  • Bezel and lume-block inspection
  • Crown operation
  • Running tests before shipment

These are not new checks introduced because of this incident. They are already part of our QC process.

What we are doing now is adding an additional layer of verification and traceability, especially for EXD SL3001 production, so that these checks are performed and recorded even more consistently.

We are also reviewing the assembly and cleanliness process with the factory responsible for this batch.

When this specific watch is returned, we will inspect it carefully to determine exactly what happened and share the conclusion with the community.

Our promise

If you receive a new EXD with a genuine manufacturing or QC defect, contact us.

If it is our problem, we will take responsibility and solve it properly.

Where replacement is appropriate, the watch can be returned to our overseas warehouse and we will send a brand-new replacement from China.

We know trust is not built by claiming that problems never happen.

It is built by how a company responds when they do.

WDC0001 Forest MOP CASE + BRACELET FINISHING

A short section from an independent review focusing on the case and bracelet.

This is one area we’ve put a lot of effort into recently: brushing, polishing, transitions between surfaces, bracelet tolerances, articulation and clasp quality.

We’ve found that even when the watch head is good, a weak bracelet can make the whole watch feel cheaper.

Curious what everyone values most here:

case finishing, bracelet quality, dial, movement, or crystal?

We’ve been rebuilding Watchdives’ supply chain since 2025 — and by June 2027, we want every older model upgraded.

Since 2025, we’ve received some fair criticism about certain older Watchdives models — mainly bracelets, clasps, sharp case edges, crystal reflections, and overall consistency between different models.

We took those comments seriously.

At the time, we were working with three different bracelet manufacturers.

One of them produced some of our lower-cost bracelets, including models such as the WD1016, WD1860, WD1863 and WD1860Q. Their quality was acceptable for the price, but over time we felt it was no longer consistent with where we wanted Watchdives to go.

Another supplier produces bracelets for models such as the WD5512, WD0013, WD0017, WD0526, WD1969 Pro and WD7922, and their finishing and tolerances are noticeably better.

Our highest-level bracelet supplier is responsible for projects such as the WD0016 / Premier series, where tolerances, finishing and construction are at a completely different level.

We are now planning to phase out the supplier responsible for some of those older entry-level bracelets and move more production to factories that also manufacture components for higher-end Japanese brands, GS-level projects, and independent brands from Italy, Singapore and the UK.

This is part of a much larger upgrade across the entire Watchdives supply chain.

Our old clasp supplier was already replaced at the beginning of 2026. Since then, customer feedback on our newer clasps has been much better. But we are still pushing further — including developing thinner clasps that sit closer and more comfortably on the wrist.

The same thing happened with crystals.

Some customers complained that the original WD0003C crystal had too much reflection. We tested samples from around seven or eight suppliers before settling on a much better solution.

Recent WD0003C production, along with many of our newer models, now uses five layers of anti-reflective coating. The improvement is very noticeable, and customer feedback on the newer crystals has been excellent.

Because some older inventory still exists, we have not yet advertised every WD0003C as having five-layer AR coating. But new production is gradually moving to this specification, and we will update product descriptions accordingly.

Today, the bracelets, cases, dials, clasps, lume and overall finishing on our newest projects are at a level we are genuinely proud of.

The downside is that development now takes much longer.

Some projects are taking six months or more from development to production because we are doing more prototyping, changing suppliers when necessary, rejecting more parts and applying stricter QC.

Our product development team has also grown significantly over the past year.

Over the next 3–4 months, several older models will receive major case and component upgrades, including:

WD1972
WD1016
WD1863
WD50Q
WD1680Q

Our goal is simple: every component should feel like it belongs to the same Watchdives quality standard.

Yes, changing factories and upgrading components increases our cost.

But we believe it is necessary.

Our newest watches — especially the Premier projects — are already showing what our current supply chain is capable of. If a customer then buys a $70–100 older Watchdives model and feels that the bracelet, clasp or case finishing is several levels behind, it damages everything we have worked toward since the second half of 2025.

We don’t want Watchdives to be a brand where quality depends too much on which model you happen to buy.

We want the standard to become increasingly consistent across the entire catalogue.

Our target is to complete the major upgrade of our older models by around June 2027.

Today our manufacturing resources are much stronger than they were a few years ago. We have access to some extremely capable factories, engineers and component suppliers in China, and that gives us the ability to make products at a level that would have been difficult for us before.

One thing we also want to keep doing is being transparent about how watches are actually manufactured.

Most watches today are not made by one craftsman sitting at a bench making every component by hand. Techniques such as CNC machining, stamping, chemical etching, laser engraving and specialist subcontracting are normal throughout the industry.

And a very large part of the global watch supply chain — including components used by many international and independent brands — comes from China.

There is nothing wrong with that.

What matters is who you work with, how much you are willing to invest in the product, how strict your tolerances are, and how much you reject before something reaches the customer.

That is increasingly what we want Watchdives / WDC to stand for.

Not exaggerated marketing.

Not pretending something is handmade when it isn’t.

Just continuing to improve the product, one component at a time.

We know we will still make mistakes, and criticism will always exist. Some criticism has actually pushed us to improve much faster.

But if you compare a Watchdives produced today with one from several years ago, I think the direction is becoming very clear.

Better suppliers.
Better components.
Stricter QC.
More original development.
And much more consistency across the brand.

That is what we are working toward.

Do you think this is the right direction for Watchdives?
