how do i approach my parents about moving out of state?
I am 18 years old, soon to be 19 in a few days. I’m in a very particular situation that I haven’t seen anyone describe before.
I have strict parents that put a lot of value on academic performance. I am a college student attending a pretty expensive private university that I am rather unhappy with. I struggled so badly that I ended up suspended for my academic performance. I have been telling my parents that I have been doing well and they believe me, as far as I know.
Now, I have exhausted my options (submitted an appeal to my suspension, denied). I know that my parents will be extremely mad and will potentially kick me out if they find out that I have been suspended, but they currently expect me to be going back to college in the fall.
So, enter my partner. We currently have a plan for me to move in with them later this summer. They are financially stable, a few years older than me, and have little to no risk of losing housing or employment. It would be a long distance move but we currently have a plan in place to make it work. I plan to attend a community college near my partner after I am settled.
My question is, am I stupid for doing this? If so, how do I tell my parents I won’t be going back to my college? How do I tell them that I’m moving across the country?
