Formerly homeless in Vancouver — sharing how I slowly got back on my feet

I was homeless in Vancouver and experiencing severe psychosis while living on the streets. For a while, I survived by using my credit card to buy food because I didn’t know what resources existed.

Eventually, another homeless person told me about the MPA Society drop-in centre. I started going there and received meals in exchange for volunteering, and they also had showers where I could clean up. Over time, I began volunteering there myself.

At the time, I had no money at all and had maxed out my credit card just trying to survive. With support from MPA and other services, I eventually got onto disability assistance. It took years, but I slowly paid off my debt and started rebuilding my life.

I still live in social housing and still live with mental illness, but I wanted to share this because when I was at my worst, I genuinely thought there was no way back. For me, recovery happened slowly through support from non-profits, government services, healthcare workers, and other people who had been through homelessness themselves.

Music?

I've been trying to find ways to get closer or provide a better experience for the crows near my home. I already stock up heavily on in shell peanuts, change the water dish daily if not more often and clean the water dish every 2-3 days. But I was thinking of getting a Bluetooth speaker to play tunes like Little Symphony or Bach or whatever classical music I can. But I'm wondering if anyone else has had experience playing tunes for their crows and what their reactions has been?

How Do Feminists Here View “Equity Feminism”?

I’ve recently come across the term “equity feminism” and I’m trying to understand how feminists here view it.

My understanding is that it emphasizes equal legal/social rights regardless of gender, bodily autonomy, and reducing unfair structural barriers while still valuing individual agency and evidence-based thinking.

Is “equity feminism” considered a meaningful branch of feminism today, or is the term outdated/problematic within modern feminist spaces?
