rant - quality of pt care

I started working as a pharmacy intern a while back. I felt really welcomed at first and then a couple weeks after and I feel really disheartened about the quality of care present. I’m not sure if it’s just the store I’m located in but the pharmacists are always so razzled that they aren’t very friendly.

The whole push on metrics rubs me the wrong way. I get being successful as a business but how can you preach about patient care in your modules when that’s the very last thing being met? The other day I was helping a customer and it was close to time to clock out and I was told to drop everything in the middle of helping in the person pick up. The pharmacist was very adamant on the ten minute rule. I felt yucky and you could tell the customer heard the pharmacist getting on to me and felt bad.

Just not sure how to feel. Is it this way in all CVS stores?? I didn’t have intentions to go into retail but this is genuinely making me NEVER want to work in retail.

Any advice?? I just feel like a robot run by a big corporation. 😕 Also worried I’m trying to work hard and won’t get much of a recommendation from the pharmacists later on for residency etc.
