Thoughts on contraception mentioned in books
I’m reading a spicy scene right now now and things are heating up, then right in the middle of the activity I get a paragraph like “Good thing I took my contraception potion last week, it tasted disgusting, but it was worth it.”
Sometimes I feel like authors need to add this on so they don’t get a gotchya moment. But I don’t think it’s necessary, like at all. Yet it happens on so many books. Like the need to explain that the FMC is on contraception. The only time I think it even warrants being mentioned is if she missed it and is worried about a pregnancy scare. Otherwise I just assume it as a given. Like I didn’t read about her having breakfast this morning, but I’m going to assume she did.
I don’t know, it just feels like an unnecessary add in sometimes. And especially shouldn’t be during a spicy scene like an afterthought. What do you guys think? Would you be floored if you read a whole book full of spice and contraception wasn’t mentioned once?
