I don’t know what to read

I just finished a series, which I will not name, and it might have been the worst thing I’ve read in my life and I have almost 400 books read since January last year. I wish this was an exaggerated statement but it’s not. I don’t want to name it because I am sure there are people who love it and the author put work into it.
Anywaaaaay, I feel like I need to wash that off somehow and I need some recs…

Things I would love(not necessarily in the same book) but I’m willing to try something new:
Academy/collage
Very strong FMC (takes no bs and fights back)
Medium-slow burn
Fun/supportive side characters
Multi POV and first person
Banter

Things I don’t like:
Whiny, weak FMC
Assholes MMc without reason
High school
OV
Weak plot

What I’ve enjoyed: all of Elizabeth Dear, Ames Mills, some of KC Kean and Tate James. Bloodoath, firestorm Academy, the blackened blade were ok.
Bonus points if it’s a series that is complete or the last book will be released soon.
Thank you!!

Slow Burn Academy request (+ Black Veil University inquiry)

I'm currently 30% into the first book of {Black Veil University by B.M. Clemton} and I cannot get a pulse on it... the writing feels a bit juvenile, and not in a fun way. Does it get better? If not, I need a rec for a slow burn academy with some enemies to lovers or bullying. I chose Black Veil University because I wanted something where the majority of the harem were already really close before the FMC comes around, and it checks that box.

Still trying to scratch that itch of the Cruel Shifterverse where the guys are a strong unit and the FMC comes into the picture and chaos ensues.

Cold/Bully/Asshole MMC hates FMC and then he's the most possessive/jealous

Hi! I'm here once again asking for some recs haha.

So I love this trope where one MMC is a jerk to the FMC but at some point (he's the last to fall, kind of slowburn) he falls for her BUT remains kind of cold/grumpy with her?? And he's the most possessive and even jealous of the others.

Some books I've read with this:

- {A Tempest of Shadows by Jane Washington} is my top

- {Ragnarok Rising by Nora Ash}

- {Seeing Through Ashes by Sigrun Lien} I KNOW this series hasn't ended, but OMG if it's not what I've been waiting for, so any book u can think of with the character dynamic is welcome. And yes, unfortunately I seem to have a favorite... and it's Seth.

I've tried {Brutes od Bristlebrook} but DNFed because too much smut for me, also, I dont really enjoy BDSM as much.

Thank youuuuuuu

What RH did you love that you haven’t seen people recommend/talk about

Exactly what the title says; I’m looking for my next read and I feel like I’ve found all the commonly recommended books. Do you all have any more out there recs that you love.

Any tropes, just trying to get some ideas for my next read!

Does anyone else get emotionally attached to RH groups like they are real people or is it just me who became Obsessed with "ghost bird"

A few months ago I started reading {The Ghost Bird by C.L. Stone} somehow after hundreds and hundreds of RH books,it became my favorite series of all time. Like genuinely. I love every single character in this series. It gave me: the comfort, the slow emotional build up,their friendship at the start, the group dynamic, the little moments, the way relationships evolve naturally instead of instantly falling into bed together. The Length of the series, it just hit perfectly for me.And now I am suffering because apparently there are still like 4 more books left before the series is fully finished, I think it is supposed to be around 19 books total? I was SO happy when the author finally opened preorder for book 15 coming at the end of this year.

Ever since finishing it, I have been desperately trying to find something similar and nothing scratches the same itch. And Yes yes, before anyone says it, I already read the Veil series. Honestly for me it dragged too much and the relationship progression happened way too late.I also tried Nikita Parmenter’s books, but for my taste the relationships start way too quickly there(almost every of her series), and I lose interest when everyone is instantly obsessed. What I loved in Ghost Bird is that perfect middle ground where the relationships slowly evolve over time. You actually get attached to the characters and feel the connections growing naturally. So now I am begging for recs, what I am looking for:
Long series only,
Please no standalones or duets,
Slow relationship development,
Character focused,
Found family vibes are a huge plus,
Preferably no MM, but if the story is genuinely incredible I can overlook it,
Emotional attachment to the whole group,
Please no rushed insta love.

I just want that same feeling again!

Books with Actual Adults

Why do so many characters in RH feel like they're actually teenagers, even when they're supposed to be in their twenties/thirties?? I've started avoiding series that take place in college or have a vaguely academic feel, even if the premise seems interesting, because nine times out of ten they just act like teenagers. And given the nature of RH, I am *really* not interested in that. Pretty much the only exception to this has been The Witch's Coven series by Kathryn Moon, which is one of my favorites.

It really sucks because I like a good grovel and I'm not opposed to dark romance, but these two tropes seem to be some of the worst offenders for immature characters. With groveling, it seems like a lot of storylines revert to the high schooler bully mentality (even when it's not a bully romance) and I just can't get why the FMC would even still be interested in these douchebags. And then with dark romance, a lot of times it reads like a couple of virgins who want to sound edgy trying dirty talk for the first time and it's so ridiculous it pulls me out of the moment. Like there was one series I read where one of the MMCs asked the FMC what her safe word was and she said something like 'you could peel the skin off my body and I wouldn't say anything' like *whaaaat*. Is this supposed to sound sexy and cool? I imagine I would've thought that was pretty badass back in my middle school My Chemical Romance days but now that my brain is fully developed it's just not doing it.

This turned into a rant when it was supposed to be a recommendation request but PLEASE someone recommend decent books with *fully adult* characters. Like MMCs who don't act like evil middle schoolers and an FMC who seems like she's done her own taxes (TurboTax is fine).

MM Recs Please!

First off, that flair had me giggling so I had to click it😂 Aaanyways, I wanna start by saying that until recently, I was not all that interested in MM books. Just didn’t seem like my thing. But THEN, I read {God of Fury by Rina Kent} and it changed my brain chemistry. God, I loved their relationship so much. And my sweet baby Bran, I can’t even. So then I read {Kiss the Villian by Rina Kent} and {Hunt the Villian by Rina Kent} and decided I do indeed like MM. Very much so. So I have come here to implore yall to bequeath me with more recs. They don’t even need to be part of a reverse harem story. I would love if the setting was like any of the books I’ve mentioned, but they don’t have to be. I’m going to end this my saying Rina Kent is now my favorite author and everything she writes is chefs kiss. Also Nikolai will forever be my top book boyfriend.

Domme FMC (No switching)

{Bound by Her by MZ Rylan}

The only RH book I read where the FMC was actually the most dominant and yet in the second book after she was emotionally attached somehow her dominance just kinda declined? Also happened in {Blood Oath (Cursed Legacies, #1) by Morgan B. Lee}

Why does falling in love equate to losing the dominance? Why do FMCs lose the passion when they are in love? Why not be even more dominant and show care? Vulnerability should not just mean being submissive even while dominating trust needs to be there for the dom as well!

I am so tired of fmcs always somehow getting "tamped" and not just in RH. Also in {Bad Alpha by Kathryn Moon} there just had to be a MMC who she was not dominating. Why is this a recurring theme and why does no one question it? There always has to be a man at the top of the pyramid. She cannot hold the position alone.

I really would have no problem if bdsm did not automatically equate to mascdom. But it is. When we think of bdsm we think of this Christian Gray and never a femdom character (believe me there are many) — because now that is a whole different genre. Women being the torchbearers of romance books... Why are we doing everything but talking about this? Why do we make such great great FMCs like Lana Myers for example and tame them in bed?

I do understand mascdom is desired comparatively more but once upon a time, bdsm — even the word was not as mainstream as it is now. We made it so. So why can't we also change this patriarchal stereotype for a change?

I am sorry if anyone felt like my ramblings are not valid since there are many femdom RH books, but it is just kind of concerning that every strong FMC needs to be tamed but the man taming just exists.

Also it is not as if I do not like strong masculine dominant men, ofc I do. I eat them up but it's hard not to see the difference between a strong MMC and a strong FMC who are always made to lose their "control" in bed. While the MMC having the same amount of control in real life will just exist as they are.

Anyways hope you got my point, but this is a recommendation request post. Please give some good TOP OF THE PYRAMID domme fmcs (i love it when personalities in bed and irl are completely diff so, maybe — dom in the streets, sub in the sheets MMC(s) and shy girl FMC who just happens to be ruthlessly dominant in bed)

Anything works honestly just no extreme fetishes and bigg, age gap.. if contemporary romance.

Also I have a femdom masterlist, and will share if anyone wants recs.

(Here's my list - https://www.reddit.com/r/RomanceBooks/s/aOsW8Fe98e )

Why is there 5 solo shower heads in one shower?

I’m not sure if this is the right sub, but I’m a real estate photographer and see all kinds of weird stuff in houses, but this still has me scratching my head. Why would anyone want 5 separate shower heads with their own temp controls and removable heads? The house was a larger 5-6 bedroom 4 1/2 bath residential house but had some odd vibes. I get two shower heads or maybeee even three but usually they are those larger rainfall shower heads in that scenario. Is this a polycule situation? lol just never seen anything like it

What are your thoughts on KU/Amazon author pay structure and the quality of the books?

Forgive me if this has already been discussed in this forum. I’m a big reader. Preferably romance, RH, etc. So for many years Amazon/KU has been my jam. In the last year, I’ve noticed a sharp decline in the quality of new books/new authors coming out in that I have been personally attributing as possibly related to AI. However, I recently watched a video by an Amazon author who said they are NOT paid per book. They are paid “by the number of pages in the book read by the reader.” This hits me as wrong on so many levels and could be so easily manipulated by the authors. Scroll down any thread and you will see people talk about losing interest in a series that drags on. Or books that rehash the same plot point ad nauseum. What is the benefit of writing a good book when you get paid more for writing a longer book? Or dragging that one good book idea and making 5 books out of it? Anyway, before I make my final decision, I wanted to throw this out to fellow RH lovers and see what other opinions on this are.

spoiled, pampered princess fmc!

y'all know that trend on tt right now where the girl pushes the guy and walks away, he follows her and then they show up on the screen again and hed carrying her? that's the kind of energy i want

like ur man carrying u and ur heels after a night out

i want the most spoiled princess fmc ever who has her men wrapped around her finger!

no: stepsiblings, non-con, heavy ddlg (like pacifiers and stuff), heavy angst, hurt no comfort
yes: supernatural, omegaverse, contemporary, mm, ff, hurt comfort/fluff!

Solving the male loneliness epidemic...with polyandry

Like I know it won't fix any deeper stuff but if one lady offers to marry some guys, they'd be part of a family and have a built in friend group or even build their friend group via marriage to this woman by scouting the way men who want many wives want their wives to do for them.

Someone once told me that being in the same place with the same interests is one of the best ways men make friends so...what's more same place and a connection than being married to one person

And it could help lessen the loneliness: They'd have each other and their wife, not be single, and other stuff

Edit: This would not be a mandate or anything, just a choice you can make. And again hypothetically and depending on the parties involved

Contemporary non-sports recs

I love RHs but am growing tired of shifterverse/fantasy plots. The only contemporary RHs I ever see recommended involve sports like hockey, basketball, etc, and I'm just not into it. I read (and enjoyed) {Faking With Benefits by Lily Gold} and will probably read the rest of her books, but aside from that and {Losers by Harley Laroux} I'm struggling.

Preferably no billionaire romances.

Mafia romances are okay, but usually bore me after one book.

I've read pretty much every Caroline Peckham/Susanne Valenti RH. Everlake Prep was okay, but I couldn't really get past the "Jack Daniels and gasoline" descriptor of one of the characters.

I read mostly KU books because they're easy to access.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Rogues series

{the rogues by ruby Vincent}

To whomever recommended this series by describing Cato as an adorable man who bites, thank you for your rec! I forgot about it and then eventually got to it and this series is funny, tense and crazy all rolled into one.

I’m on book 2 now and it’s easily one of my favourite series so far this year.

This might be a far reach but help a friend….

I need where jealousy starts in the harem because 2 of the guys start to shut her out because of their relationship with each other. OR they’re already established and they continue to exclude her…I need some angst and jealousy. I loved the idea of Twisted Ink where the guys had history and the GF started to feel hurt because they had a prior relationship/feelings and outside of her place in the harem. Am I making sense? I’m sure this has been asked a bazillion times. Sorry

looking for mmf where the guys are already together before the fmc joins

I have read {sugar daddies by jade west} a while ago. but don't remember much about it and I believe that is one of the only books I have read where the MMCs are already together before the FMC joins... but I also want it to be angsty, and yearning. and I don't want the fmc to feel like she is the main character I want all characters to feel important. that actually reminds me I have also read {the losers duet by harley laroux} and LOVED!! i'm just in a reading slump and it sound like something like that would take me out of it.

Bonds That Tie first time reader-rant

Ok I’ve already searched the sub and have read plenty of discussions of the things that pissed me off so I’m not going to bother rehashing here but… the spice? Am I the only one that is vastly disappointed with it?? I finished book four and read through the Nox bonding and I’m just done. Don’t begin with Gryphon having a dirty mouth to proceed not to give us any of his dirty mouth commentary. Everything is super vanilla which like, fine but ive read vanilla scenes that are still hot bc of the writing. And that first threesome with Gryphon and North? That was the most boring threesome I’ve ever read. The first orgy? Honestly, it’s a skill how boring this writer made an orgy. The books read like a YA novel which is fine, I’m so down with reading that shit like Hunger Games etc., but then just don’t bother with the sex bc wow it’s depressing. 5 men and 4 books and there’s not even so much as a thumb up an asshole.

I was pushing through but between that and the fact that they keep leaving Oli behind and wasting tacteam deaths when she could just transport, kill everyone in 3 seconds, and transport back… I’m done. I can’t. I spent 2 days trying bc I’ve been DNFing almost everything I’ve picked up lately but I’m over it.

End Rant.

EDIT:

Ok I’m not going to make a new post, but I also am so over Oli being “woe is me” everything is my fault, how can you love me, I’m just a high school dropout I’m so worthless… yada yada yada. Bitch, please. Get over yourself.

Once again asking for help finding an obscure Omegaverse book! Arranged marriage/mating, Abusive family, locked in a dark room, dead mom, reverse harem

Hi everyone I am once again back and asking for aid. I have asked this a number of times on here and r/romancebooks, but no one was able to find it, so I am asking again in hopes someone who recognizes it will see! I am fairly certain it was contemporary omegaverse but not 100% sure on the contemporary part.

The FL coming from an abusive rich family; I believe her mother had been dead since she was young, and her step-mother was abusive alongside her father; i know she had siblings, and one was an older brother (but i cant remember if he is bio or step-brother). She was given to a group of men for an arranged marriage/mating who were good people. I think it was a business arrangement of some kind, or paying off some debt? She was fairly docile from the abuse wearing her down, so she went along willingly.

I remember a scene from later in the story where she is back with her family for some reason, and they lock her in her mother's old room with no light at all as punishment for something. She had her mothers diary with her. This was a punishment she had endured in the past, and it re-traumatizes her. Her men eventually demand to see her and shove past her parents and older brother, and find her in the room, carrying her out of the home and back with them. I want to say there was a hallway to get to the room, and the MMCs had to pass the brother in the hall.

It was not an academy setting or shifter.

At this point, we are fairly certain the book was originally released on KU, but sometime in the last year was removed from amazon altogether. I believe i read it originally sometime in the summer of last year.

here is the list of books that we know its not:

- Shattered Omega by Bre Rose

- rogue by Rose Carver

- Forbidden: Part One by Emilia Emerson

- Priceless by Devyn Sinclair (tho this one felt very close)

- Bound to the Beast by Ari Wright

- Knot the one they want by Harper Lennox

- Believe it or Knot by Harper Wylde

- Knot All That Glitters by Devyn Sinclair

- Knot Ruined by Jessica Crosbie

- Tied in Knots by Eve Newton

- Once Upon a Pack by Ari Wright

- Damaged Princess by Jillian West

- Saving the packs omega by Callie Clark

- The Scent of US duology
