Have you ever found one character that made the series unreadable?

Okay, so this may just be me, but I'm curious if anyone else has ever had this happen to them.

There have been a few series I've tried to read where I get really into it, love it, but one particular character (usually one of the MMCs) gets more and more annoying, and then eventually it hits critical mass and you have to drop the series.

I HATE not finishing books, let alone finishing series, so it has to get pretty bad. Usually I can get by skipping any chapters written from their point of view, skimming and skipping scenes that feature them, etc.

The worst I've ever encountered was The Firestone Academy by Hannah Haze, and please forgive me for a moment but I just have to have a small rant for a moment:

Dray is one of the absolute worst characters I have ever encountered. He was annoying but alright in the first book. The other MMCs were about the same, and it made sense for the first book. The problems really began in the second, where the other MMCs got depth and backstories. They ended up being pretty interesting, and I was super into the story. Except for Dray. He not only managed to lose any personality, the literal only thing he ever talked or thought about was sex. There would be a serious conversation about emotions, plans, anything, and his entire contribution would be "but have you seen her body, though?". When he went to meet his family I was so excited. I thought that maybe we'd finally see another side of him! No. Not at all. He spent the whole time talking to his brothers about his sex life, and all they wanted to know was if she let him (a non-shifter, btw) have sex while in his wolf form. Let that sink in for a moment. It gets worse.

Book 4 happened and I had to DNF. They had spent like a week tramping through the wilderness with no bathing, and she was like "oh no it's almost the full moon, you need to make sure you're eating enough" and then he said it. The sentence that haunts me and had me immediately put the book down. "I bet your juices are swimming with calories" and then he went to town. I feel awful just thinking about that sentence again. It's legitimately the grossest sentence I have encountered.

RANT OVER

So has anyone else ever found a character that they hated to the extent that it ruined the book or series?

Maybe I’m too picky but another DNF

I’m reading {Secret Baby for My Brother’s Best Friends by Hannah Ryder} (feel free to judge me, I’m judging myself at this point). I’m only on pg. 27 and already annoyed/weirded out with “he sucked my earlobes into his mouth”. Ok kinda weird, maybe a typo but whatever. Then “he sucked my nipples into his mouth” after he touched one “nub”. But, okay I’m with you still.

Then not two paragraphs later the FMC is describing how she hasn’t had a wild teenagerhood or college life but this threesome will be something she’ll describe in detail to her grandchildren. Literally: “Grandma had car sex with three men and one of them ate her out while the other two watched.” Like, what in the hell? I’m sorry, maybe I’m just old enough to be a Grandma, but who tf writes that?!? I guess this will be the second DNF in two days. I just can’t with some of these they’re awful.

Maybe we need a new tag that says “Just No Reverse Harem Writers” like the Just No MIL sub, lol.

Scarred heroine please

I see alot of posts asking about scarred hero's but I'd love to read one about a scarred heroine. Or maybe she's deaf or blind. Hell even her being plus size. Like emotionally scarred as well of that makes sense. And she feels unloved or unworthy, maybe mistreated by people until they guys come along and just love her for her.

My only hard no's are cheating and bullying within the harem.

Also standalones preferred and at most a duet, could maybe do a trio if there aren't too many pages

Thanks!

Feeling like Goldilocks 🤦‍♀️

I AM IN A SLUMP! No book is suiting my needs right now. Too cutesey, too much smut, too dark, too long.

And if I come across a blurb that manages to make my brain go “yesssss!!”… It turns out to be an incomplete series! And that’s probably the last thing I should get into.

And it’s not this genre, it’s all genres! I tried the age old trick to switch genres when in a slump, it isn’t working cause nothing is able to hold my attention!!!

Even tried to reread an old fav, even that couldn’t hold my attention.

I can’t read!!! I really want to read but I can’t!
How Do I Fix This??

(I wasn’t sure if this came under discussion or rant)

FMC is the dominant character?

I’m a guy who enjoys RH, but I’m looking for stories where the female is the dominant role and the men subservient. They seem to be quite rare. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Many thanks in advance.

Submissive fmc loving doms

I'm looking for a read for the coming weekend. Would love a book with the following

Female main character a sub with a praise kink

Dom or dominants who are gentle and caring about it. Some good spice but not just for the sake of spice.

I don't want sex for sex sake, dudes with all over tattoos called Blake, raven, and a body that makes the main female character drool etc.

Any college/uni setting w daddy kink?

This is a repost bc the last one got no comments 😭

I’m looking for something w a daddy kink that isn’t ONLY in the bedroom, i want it used outside of it, but not used in EVERY chapter. I’d prefer something dark, some bully, I’d also rather no professor or staff in the harem.

The guys being well known or popular in the school would be preferred 🤗

My hard no is pregnancy

Books that inspired this post:
{the serpents of cinderhart academy by Logan fox} I was literally crashing out over this during my last post but I couldn’t stop reading
{the devils of raven gate by m Violet}
{Spineridge university by Clarissa wild}

P.S. I love this sub so much, you guys are so damn kinky, it’s amazing

This thing of ours by Lucy Scott Bryan

I am in a book slump rereading all my omegaverse books because I just can’t find anything new. I found “This thing of ours” by Lucy Scott Bryan and I’m wondering if it’s any good? I’m not the biggest mafia genre fan but I’m willing to give it a go if it’s a good OV book. Please convince be one way or another!

Spicy book recs

Looking for what book I should read next! I like reading fantasy or romantasy. Big fan of smut but it doesn’t have to be there if the story is good.

Currently listening to Fourth Wing audio book, it’s been okay so far.

Recent books I’ve read to get a feel for my reading preferences:
The Poison Daughter 5/5 ⭐️
One Dark Window 4/5 ⭐️
Kiss of the Basilisk 3/5 ⭐️
The Female 2/5 ⭐️
Swordheart 1/5 ⭐️

Please don’t recommend ACOTAR. First book is a 2/5 for me and I thought it was pretty slow.

Review of Blood of the Fairest

I was lucky enough to get to read Morgan B. Lee's new book as an advanced reading copy, {Blood of the Fairest by Morgan B. Lee}

It's book 1 in a new series. Planned trilogy, might be more. I wanted to share my review because this was perfect! If you've read Morgan's other series, {the Cursed Legacies by Morgan B. Lee}, and loved it, you will not be disappointed.

<b>My review copied from my Goodreads review:</b>

This is an infinity stars read for me!

And I have no doubt this series will become a favourite of mine.

Ever wished you could live in one of the fairytales? Be a princess, rescued by the prince or dancing with him at a ball? Maybe you wanted to know if the Huntsman can use his strength for something other than slaying monsters?

Well, Verena gets the whole package, just… as the Evil Queen in Snow White. With no idea how she got there, who she is waking up as, or how to get back, Verena tries to navigate a world that shouldn’t exist. She is no damsel in distress because she has already lived nightmares and survived. But learning the new vernacular is hard, and she doesn’t even try. So prepare yourself for many many many modern-day references that will drive the people around her nuts!

If you are a fan of the TV show Once Upon A Time this will be perfect for you! It’s just in reverse. Instead of all the fairytale people coming here, you go there. And instead of the pretty versions it’s the original Grimm versions. So darker, gruel.

While Verena tries to figure out how to go back she finds allies even though it’s hard when every one assumes she’s the Evil Queen. So there are “hiccups “ 😅

This is a why choose and the harem will evolve over the series. You will try to guess who’s in but Miss Morgan has made it difficult to tell.

This story is hilarious, sad, sweet, heartwarming, magical, sexy, dark-ish with minor horror elements, that will have you seated until you are finished! Staring at the wall. Wondering what the h3ll just happened.

<b>World</b> 🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍/5

<b>Plot</b> 📝📝📝📝📝/5

<b>Characters</b> 👥👥👥👥👥/5

<b>Romance</b> ❤️❤️❤️/5

<b>Spice</b> 🌶🌶/5

Request: FMC like Joe/Cruz in Paramount’s Lioness

Please share recommendations for books with a badass FMC in the military — preferably in elite ops, like Joe McNamara or Cruz Manuelos from the TV program Lioness.

I’d love to see her at the top of her game, as the highest ranking person in any room; or as a strong-willed, determined woman kicking ass and climbing the ranks in the boys’ club.

Recommendations in any genre, spice level, and relationship combination are appreciated!

X’s and O’s by Elle Thorpe

I’ve nearly finished reading this book and I cannot say enough good things about it. I have completely fallen in love with X. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed out loud so much at a book. Everything he does has me cracking up and the part with Reginald the duck had be snorting so hard with laughter! My reverse harem girlies I highly recommend reading this series. I have nearly finished reading the first book and I started it this morning. I haven’t been able to put it down! It’s available on Kindle Unlimited, so go check it out!!
I so want a man like X 😍😍🖤

Blood of the Fairest by Morgan B. Lee

Absolutely! I’d keep your excited, slightly chaotic reader energy because that’s what makes the review feel genuine, but smooth out the grammar and make the praise hit harder. ✨

I know I should have written this sooner, but I was too busy rereading the ARC. 😂 The book comes out in just ONE day, so I figured it was finally time to talk about what I think.

First of all… IT’S PERFECT.

If you’ve read The Cursed Legacies, then you already know Morgan is one of the best RH writers out there. And with Blood of the Fairest, she has completely outdone herself.

The book revolves heavily around fairytales, and while reading, I kept having these moments like, “WAIT… isn’t he that character?!” or “Isn’t this from THAT story?!” There were so many familiar elements woven into the story, and I absolutely loved discovering them as I went along.

Not a single chapter was boring. The world-building was done beautifully, and every character felt distinctive and memorable. Nobody just blurred into the background, which made the whole story so much more fun to read.

And the FMC? Absolutely hilarious and so relatable. I genuinely loved her.

I want to say SO much more, but I refuse to spoil anything. 🤐

Just trust me when I say that YOU’LL NOT REGRET READING THIS BOOK. 😌

I’m giving it 6/5 stars because apparently 5 stars simply aren't enough.

Morgan really outdid herself with this one. I genuinely thought nothing in RH could ever beat The Cursed Legacies, but Blood of the Fairest completely changed my mind.

TBOTF is officially my new favorite. 👑📖😊

Blood of the Fairest

Blood of the Fairest 🥁

So!

I don't know how many of you have read the book. But the book is officially out.

The world-building and plot is amazing ing of course.

There are different characters from different fairytales.

How many men she will have is unclear though.

The FMC herself got isekaied into a new fairytale world as the evil queen. She wakes up to being murdered by her own people but kills them and escapes.

We meet 2 of the MLs sooner into the story. One is a hunter , the other is a mirror guy. Now with the mirror guy I have questions. I think he's from the Sleeping Kingdom, but that's just me.

The other is a Fae and Pied Piper. We also have a prince of a neighboring kingdom and a Silent Doctor. Now I feel there might be 6 MLs, but I might be wrong. Morgan did say before that the one's we initially think are MLs might be not at the end. Of course we also have a villain. Her psychotic ex.

Also since it's set in the 1600s (most probably,) there's no proper washrooms , she dumps in a deep hole. No one knows where the shit goes.

The MLs are all sweethearts. One of them though tortures her initially, it was completely due to a misunderstanding. He soon regrets it and swears himself as her faithful guard and slave.

There's a part where she's angry and asks him to fuck himself.

But he actually does. 😂 Tgat was funny as heck.

I want to say more. But I can't spoil. Read this only if you have finished the book. Cause I have questions and need someone to discuss. So run quick and read the book.

Just so you'll know it also gave me a hungover 🥲

Bad Mood Read

Ive had a day. A DAY-and its only morning. I need a read that will pick me up and keep me distracted. What do you read when your in an absolutely foul mood?

I prefer RH but any romance is fine (mm, mf, ff) as long as there is no SA. I prefer no bully/cruelty (but if its there its okay, maybe someone else will love it!) and my favorite trope is high usage of magic/powers in any kind of world. I love fated mates and destiny but its not required. Less children the better but as long as the kids arent just birthed and forgotten about its fine.

Any updates on release???

I had been anticipating the release of this book on the 14th, but due to “personal” reasons from the author it’s been postponed until further notice. Does anyone know when that is or what could have delayed it??? How does something personal affect a set release date? I just want to understand. I’ve been having a hard time finding something to read, so I was looking forward to this. I really enjoyed Knot a Highland Romance, but it was by a different author.

Sorry for such a dramatic post, but I’m sure my boyfriend’s tired of hearing about it.

The Arcanaeum by Marie Mistry

I’m making this post and I hope it’s allowed because I want to share my love for this authors writing. This trilogy was to die for and I’m wondering how everyone else felt about this trilogy ? :)

I found the book relatable from the way she adored her books. The FMC is adorable but strong with the perfect amount of sass. She is everything from submissive to dom depending on her mmc but the book is so much more that that (6 guys in the harem)! The plot is so good and original that I couldn’t stop reading. Each mmc intrigues you and doesn’t bore you and the smut is perfectly written that I got butterflies so many times. I cried when I finished the book just because it was such a good escape from reality, it really pulled me in. I might be late to the trilogy but I had to express my love for her books in case anyone hasn’t read any yet.

A line I saved from the book >!“ In death, I'm as much of an object to be manipulated as I was in life.!<
>!I think... I think I've finally had enough.”!<
There’s some betrayal in it from the mmc but I think he grovels enough to my liking, the only thing I’d change is more intimacy with this mmc because his kinks are just chefs kiss

I realized after reading that I’ve also read The Fifth Nicnevin & Vice College for Young Demons by her , which I LOVED. What an amazing author.
