Behavioral Euthanasia
Is this the right decision?
I have a 4 year old pit/boxer mix, spayed, 61lbs, she has always had a bit of what the vet calls a dominance problem. She attacked my 8 year old Aussie mix first a couple of years ago, left a puncture wound on her neck and bit me in the process. We separated them, worked on trying to figure out her triggers and and the vet prescribed meds to help the aggression, then we very slowly started reintroducing them, she did well with her as long as we were outside only, almost every time they were inside together it ended in her attacking the older dog, usually also ended with me being bit or lunged at trying to bite me after breaking them up. Recently she has started attacking our younger 2 year old Lab mix, three times in the last couple of months. This is her own pup who she’d been better with than any other dog before, we went back to the vet and tried different meds and more training and everything the vet recommended to do, nothing so far has helped at all. Last night my 8 year old came inside and before we realized she was in, the 4 year old was on top of her and had her by the neck trying to shake her around and left another puncture wound on her neck. I’m almost afraid of keeping her in fear that she will end up turning on us or eventually get ahold of one of the other dogs and end up killing them and equally afraid of rehoming in fear that she would hurt someone else. I love her so much and I hate that this is a decision that I even have to think of making but I’m not sure if or when behavioral euthanasia would be an appropriate course of action
This would make roughly the 7-8 fight this year alone and the 4th that have left wounds on me or another dog
