[NCCA] CLEMENT ACEVEDO WORST

ADMINISTRATION OF THE 2026 NAMCYA COMPETITION — Serious Concerns About Fairness and Consistency

To the Board of Trustees, Competition Committee, and concerned officials of National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA):

We are raising serious concerns regarding the administration of the 2026 NAMCYA competition under Artistic and Program Director Clement Acevedo.

Recent procedural changes during the elimination round have created growing concerns among participants regarding fairness, consistency, transparency, and equal treatment.

On 21 May 2026 night, participants received a reminder reiterating that elimination videos must be:

* unedited,

* recorded in one continuous take,

* without cuts, zooming, panning, or audio enhancement,

and that noncompliant submissions would be disqualified.

These rules were already part of the official guidelines from the beginning. Many applicants invested significant time and effort to ensure strict compliance.

However, only a few hours later, on 22 May 2026 AM, another email announced that the submission deadline would be extended from 22 May to 25 May 2026 “to allow applicants sufficient time to review and, if necessary, resubmit their entries.”

This sequence of events understandably creates the impression that the extension was intended to accommodate participants who may not have complied with the original rules.

Those who carefully followed the guidelines from the start are now left wondering whether compliance was effectively penalized while noncompliance was given additional opportunity for correction.

This is also not the first procedural adjustment during the elimination round. Participants have already seen:

* the prescribed playing time revised (now shorter); and

* submission deadlines extended after renewed reminders about compliance requirements.

Repeated mid-process changes risk undermining:

* the integrity of the competition,

* confidence in the impartiality of the organizers, and

* the equal footing expected among competitors.

Competitions of this level require stable and consistently enforced rules. Participants prepare for months based on published guidelines. When standards appear flexible during an ongoing competition, concerns about fairness naturally arise.

Several important questions now need clarification:

* What safeguards are in place to ensure fairness in the semifinal and final rounds?

* Will further accommodations or revisions be introduced later?

* How will NAMCYA ensure equal treatment for all participants moving forward?

In the interest of transparency and preserving the credibility of NAMCYA, we respectfully call for:

  1. A formal explanation for the deadline extension despite the rules already being clearly stated;
  2. Clarification on whether noncompliant submissions prompted the extension;
  3. Assurance that all applicants are being held to the same standards;
  4. Publication of final and fixed guidelines for the remaining stages of the competition; and
  5. A review of the competition’s administrative handling to restore participant confidence.

This concern is raised not out of hostility, but out of respect for the integrity of NAMCYA and for the many young Filipino musicians who dedicate immense effort to this competition.

Fairness, consistency, and transparency are essential to maintaining trust in any national arts institution. - from concerned Parents
