People Asking & Being Rude About My Compression Socks
Background: I had a blood clot (svt) 2 years ago. I‘m higher risk because my job & genetics I have to wear compression socks indefinitely.
When summer comes so do the questions about my socks. I’m ready for the world to mind their own business! 🙄😡
-The cashier at the grocery store: Why are you wearing socks? It’s too hot out for socks today. (I didn’t answer her and then she said, but your socks are cute…)
- My MIL ‘forgets’ why I wear compression socks. Today we had a BBQ and she says : ‘Oh you are wearing compression socks’ “Yes, I have to wear them everyday, all the time.” ‘Oh, is it because your Mom had a blood clot?” (she meant genetics). ‘It’s because I’m higher risk and the compression socks keep my blood flowing to avoid another clot.’ Last time I checked my varicose veins didn’t magically reverse and fix themselves, so why the shock when I wear them?!? Like give me a break…if she doesn’t get it after 2 years IDK what to tell her.
-Also from my MIL on another occasion: “You look nice!” I was wearing a dress with compression tights. She looks at my compression tights: ‘I just hate wearing tights.’
-Told my Husband I was thinking of buying a cute jumper for the summer. His response: “I missed when you used to not weight the compression socks, they kinda would kill the cuteness of the jumper.’ 🥺So, I didn’t buy the jumper.
Basically, I am happy to wear my compression socks to avoid getting another clot and risk losing my leg…BUT why are my socks anyone’s business?
