Advice/ Tips on Running Dungeon World?

I’ve always loved the simplicity of DW and it’s narrative forward style but I’m new to running this game and I have players disappointed in their abilities.

We’ve ran about 5 games and with life being hectic I’ve just defaulted to old ways I’ve run the game so rules are going by the wayside and I think this is a core reason their abilities could be feeling flat or not useful.

Also, The power of this is not that similar to 5e right? I feel like generally everyone is frail; enemies and players. That’s generally how I like it, but at least one of my players has explicitly told me they like the high power of high level DnD. Does this game allow for that power fantasy within the mechanics or no?

And lastly I know I need to brush up on the rules, but my free time to spend on it is few and far between. Any specific rules or tips I should know for running DW?

Thanks for reading!

Help Building Jund Stompy

Here’s the Decklist: Big Boys in a Big Underworld

So for starters I play on a budget, so i prefer cheaper cards. I don’t want to spend more than $5 on a card if i can help it. My play group plays bracket 2 on the cusp of 3. I chose Coram because my friends all have stompy decks and I didn’t have one so i wanted one.

I chose Coram cause I like selfmill/ graveyard stuff and I’ve had my eye on him since he came out so it seemed like a perfect fit! I’ve also built it with a limitation of including an only creatures with the exception of farseek for ramp/ color fixing. The core concept of the deck is that I wanna just turn most if not everything sideways every turn. Just attack hard and relentlessly, that’s the gameplan.

Right now this deck has a top decking issue. Most games the early-mid game goes fine while i ramp and maybe get a nice value piece down, but often by that point Im out of cards. I seem to need draw pieces but I feel like there’s quite a bit of draw in there. It is generally on the top end but I don’t think that’s much of an issue. Coram draws into lands and creatures pretty well but it doesn’t seem to be enough most of the time.

My thought is that maybe I need more 1-4 drops that draw? Another thought is that I need more burst draw like The Speed Demon, that card has proven to be one of the best cards in the deck.

Lemme know what you think! Open to whatever you got to say! 🤙

Are wild encounters more common in B/W?

Just started a new White playthrough and I feel like these grass encounters happen more frequently than other games. I’ve only played through this game maybe 3 times and it’s been a while.

All of those 1-2 grass patches seem to be triggering encounters more than usual too. Half the time I’m triggering encounters through those tiny patches. It’s not enough for me to stop playing but it’s a little more annoying than I want it to be 😂

Looking for Deckbuilding Advice/ Direction

So I’ve been wanting to build out of my comfort zone which is usually red/ green/ or black (sometimes blue). I typically like stompy decks or fast decks, even my mono blue deck is heavily creature focused. What can I say I really like creatures 😂.

I want to have some kind of a control/ laid back kind of deck. A deck that cares about the whole board reacting to threats maybe making deals to gain advantage. All of my decks have a pretty self focused gameplan throwing out threats and occasional value pieces building up my own board. I just want a deck where I can mostly watch my opponents and lay back a bit and try to squeeze out a win at the end.

I’m thinking some kind of orzhov or dimir deck. I don’t want 3 color because of the mana base. I’m also trying to keep the budget extremely low if possible ($30-$50) jank all the way lol.

Commanders I’ve considered:
Lord of the Nazgûl
Council of Four
And Both Shadrix cards.

Lord of the Nazgûl and council of four seem a little too easy 😅 but they might just be the best option for what I’m looking for. If you have a commander or any cards/ packages of cards I’d love to hear cause I’ve never really build a control deck in commander.

Thanks in advance! Appreciate you nerds! 🔥
