How’s life near downtown Newcastle?

We are looking to relocate to Seattle and our move will be early July. So far we have been eyeing Mercer Island for its school and proximity to the light rail line. However, the apartments that we want which is of a certain size seem to not be available now and we might have to have a plan B.

One of these options is Newcastle, because it’s part of the Cougar Ridge Elementary catchment area. The apartment is amazing, and has tons of space, a private home office and all.

Problem is, it’s a bit further from the light rail, and Google gives me 10 minutes, but I imagine it’s more due to traffic.

I’m looking for opinions on the area, transit and traffic around it. is it walkable or bikable?

the info that I see on Reddit is from 5+ years and dont know of any traffic improvements were made since.

Looking into the official website it says that

>The Empire Outlets garage will be accessible for parking until 8:30AM on Tour day. You must park elsewhere after that time.

Do they really close after 8:30 AM sharp? My wave leaves at 9:50, so I should be there by  8:50AM-9:20AM. However what if I arrive at 8:45, I would still make it in time, but the parking may be close.
