Bike Theft?

Curious how serious bike theft is in Seattle. I obviously see a lot of stolen bikes at homeless encampments, and I was wondering if it’s more a crime of opportunity or if it’s more serious targeted bike thefts?

I have secure bike parking at work down town, and have a decent bike lock (but not like a 200 dollar lock) but I’m wondering how safe my bike will be if I park it at the gym/coffee shop/grocery etc.

I live in Beacon Hill west of Jefferson park and mostly frequent Mt. Baker, Columbia city and Georgetown.

Thanks for the insight!

Sky View Observatory

I have a guest coming to town and multiple people have said skip the Space Needle and go to Sky View Observatory. If we tried to do that on a Saturday afternoon....July 11...would it be a situation with a long line or pretty much something that could be a quick visit? Trying to squeeze in other things that day.

Any experience with NiceToMeet or TimeLeft?

Has anyone tried out either Nice To Meet or Time Left? They both seem focused on arranging small social dinners geared towards meeting new people. They are marketed more as a social opportunity than dating-focused. On paper, it sounds good, but I was wondering what kinds of restaurants they select and where they are. I'm in NorthEast Seattle and if the restaurant is in West Seattle, that can be a really long drive in traffic. My Facebook feed is currently filled with ads for these and other similar services, but I'm skeptical, hence this post.

I'm a late 50s widower looking to expand my social circle. I'm also diving more into MeetUp to see what groups there align with my hobbies (IE guitar).

Anyway, thanks for any info you have on either of these.

Dating in Seattle

I think I need little advice. I’m an Asian (30M), living in Seattle. I have been trying dating apps (mostly DilMil and Hinge) to find a person I can vibe with. It’s been more than 2 years since I’m looking for a potential match. I had only 2 actual matches that ended up with dating.

I’m a trail runner, I enjoy running, hiking, driving to mountains, cooking and working on my golf swings these days.

I know there is nothing much to tell about myself on dating apps with photos and prompts. I have been working updating my profile regularly, but still no response these days.

I have never tried speed dating before, and I’m not sure if that works either.

I’m really not sure what else to try. If there any advice you can give, I would appreciate.

USA vs BELGIUM 7/6 Watch Party Rec

Hi everyone! Looking forward to watching tomorrow’s WC game, but I won’t be able to head out to a watch party until about 4:30pm. Anyone know of a location that would be best for a later arrival?

I know the pier packs out early. Would the Seattle Center or Pacific Place be a possibility? Or does anyone know of another large space where visibility to the game would still be possible?

Seems like an impossible ask but I’d love being around others so I figured I’d ask :) thanks everyone!!!!

Where to find local wildflower honey?

I heard this helps with allergies. I went to the Mercer Island farmers market and found blackberry, blueberry, and knotweed honeys (which were all delicious) but I’m looking for local wildflower honey specifically. anyone have a source? Thanks in advance!

Indians in Fairwood/Maple-Heights

Me and my wife are considering moving to Renton. Currently renting in Seattle, we want to purchase our first home as we plan on starting a family. So far, Fairwood neighborhood attracts us given our budget.

We are of Indian (asian) origin ourselves. We want to ensure us and our future kids have some social life with the Indian community wherever we plan to settle. Looking forward to inputs on whether Renton and Fairwoods particularly is a good place for this OR if you have other recommendations.

Groceries: Where are you shopping and what are you buying?

Just a little informal poll on grocery shopping habits. People often talk about how much they spend on groceries but not what they're spending it on.

Coffee shops

Yes, I know there are coffee shops everywhere, but what are the unique ones or ones with especially good coffee (and why is it so good)?

How much do I realistically need to make to live in Seattle or the Seattle area? It’s me and two other people who would be moving how much would we each need to make?

I know this is a really complex question but if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
I’m a pretty conservative person on spending and should I sell my vehicle before moving? I’m atleast two years out from moving!

moving in may or june of 2027, any advice?

i know this is super far in advance, but i'm 22 and from kansas and this is my first time living on my own so i'm nervous and i don't have a lot of background knowledge to build off of. ideally i want to move to capitol hill, maybe roosevelt, and i'm hopefully moving with a friend so we'd be looking for a 2 bed apartment. but i have a lot of questions 😭

is it easy for someone subleasing to take over the actual lease after the contract ends? when should i start looking for apartments and applying to jobs and how do i communicate me needing to relocate first (i plan on likely nannying or being a daycare teacher)? how do i come up with a budget if i don't even know how much i'll be making yet? what other things should i be looking to in general, especially when i'm coming from midwest (suburban area, 30 mins out from metro)? what should i keep in mind when moving to/living in seattle?

i'm also curious if anyone has any insights on schooling as an english education major. i should only have a year, maybe 2, left since i've done most of my schooling in kansas, and i know i'll have to take a break so i can get count for in state tuition. what universities should i look into? how long until/what do i need to do to qualify for in state tuition?

sorry i have so many questions!! i am trying to research a lot of things but it is a bit overwhelming.

Can I use my passport card for getting into Seattle bars?

My drivers license expired like 2 days ago and my new one has not come yet. I’m going downtown tomorrow to some bars, will they let me in with my passport card?

Looking to move to seattle and asking for some advice

So me and my partner are in utah. Which is currently on fire, and we're a queer couple, so being somewhere more friendly to that would be nice, so we're thinking seattle as soon as we can save up some money. Im a city bus driver and my partner is an entry level processing tech at a medical lab. Where would be some places you guys know of where we can find some jobs out there right now? Which areas would you recommend that would be pretty affordable to move into? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for places and stuff where we could go to get involved with the community and make some friends?

32F in Big Tech considering Seattle… tell me what I’d actually be signing up for 😅

Hi Seattle!

I’m 32F and work for a big tech company. Yes, I know… another tech transplant. I promise I have a personality outside of my laptop. 😅

I’ve been hopping around cities for work (currently in Austin), and my leadership now wants me to relocate to Seattle as my permanent home base. I’m trying to figure out if it’s somewhere I could build a life-not just continue building my career.

A little about me: I have the most adorable golden Retriever, volunteer with a dog rescue group, love the outdoors, hiking, Pilates, coffee shops, wineries, and recently picked up padel. I’m very extroverted. I also have a confession… I really love the sun. ☀️

Once I make the move, i want to start dating intentionally for a long-term relationship, and while getting dates hasn’t really been my challenge, finding ambitious, emotionally available people who want to build a life together has.

For those who’ve lived in Seattle:

How much does the weather actually affect your day-to-day life?
Is the “Seattle Freeze” real, or does it mostly disappear once you find your community?
How do people actually make friends and meet partners outside of work and dating apps?
Is Seattle as dog-friendly as everyone says?
If you moved here in your 30s, what surprised you the most?
I’m visiting later this month, so I’d love the honest version-the good the bad, and the things you wish you’d known beforehand.

Missing our ferry from anacortes. What should we do with an extra 3 hours between Seattle and there?

Hi, looking for suggestions on how to pass a couple hours before our new ferry time at 8 tonight? We should have an extra 2-2:30 to do something. Passing through Seattle from the south so we could stop there, too.

Thanks

Kaiser insurance L&D: Overlake Bellevue or Providence Everett

Hi everyone (especially mothers :)),

I’m due in August with Kaiser insurance and trying to decide between Providence Everett and Overlake Bellevue for Labor and Delivery. I’m currently low-risk and aiming for a natural birth.

I'd love to hear local experiences, pros/cons, or insights on the care, facility quality, and how supportive they are of natural birth preferences.

Thanks in advance!

Need advice to stay close to Pier 69 for early ferry departure. (2 68 year olds)

We have stayed in Seattle a number of times but this trip is a 1 night stay and we need to be near (enough) to Pier 69 to be boarding the Clipper Seattle to Victoria and be walking on board no later than 7:30am. We are both 68 and will have our carry-on sized wheelie suitcases, a backpack (personal but not tiny) each and a medical bag (cpap). The Edgewater, (which we are NOT staying at due to the cost) whilst close and beautiful, seems a wild overspend because we are flying into Seattle from NYC that morning, spending the afternoon and dinner with some family and then plunking down for a beer and a good night's sleep before getting up (for us) early. What's needed: good CLEAN firm bed and not over a live-music club (the croccodile). Suggestions? The Homewood suites would mean a .6 mile morning walk (presuming we can get breakfast on the ferry). Is there a better suggestion? TIA

First time visiting

I (20F) will be solo travelling to Seattle next week for one night, I want to know what good things there are to do to visit in the evening (5pm onwards) and during the morning/afternoon the day after as I’m just stopping before I travel somewhere else. I’m staying near pike place and just wondering is there any must see things in Seattle or any chill nice spots to see a sunrise
