Which SF writers do you think were/are good-looking?
Writers aren't expected to be good-looking like actors are, so I thought it'd be a worthwhile question. I think Catherynne M. Valente's pretty cute.

I know that some of the Almost Live!-era stereotypes, like Ballard being for Scandinavians and old people, are dated by now, so I was wondering if Seattleites still mock Tacoma like in the old days.
B5 was good at characters who were hateably smug: Bester, Morden, and my favorite, Clark's ISN news anchor Alison Higgins. Is there any word, either from JMS or from any expanded universe material, about what happened to her?
Sometimes when I wake up from a dream I get a feeling of déjà vu like I could remember something from a previous dream, almost like my dreams have a shared universe. Anyone else ever have this happen?
Just curious.
It's pretty well-known that some ESPN employees don't care for Bristol, "the most godforsaken place on the East Coast." Are there any that prefer it over NY or LA?
From late '98 to the end of '06 NBC aired classic SNL episodes in their entirety at 2 or 2:30 am Sunday mornings. I couldn't stay up late enough to watch them when they aired but sometimes I recorded them; they were a nice way to watch old eps in their entirety(as opposed to the hour-long versions rerunning on cable) back when streaming video was a lot harder to come by. Anyone else have fond memories of this?
Pretty much all the clips from the Stewart era used to be online before the archives were enshittified to death; I know the Kilborn era isn't as popular but I still wish they'd put videos from that era online too. I remember once said the Kilborn era tapes had all been erased; he may have been joking but if not that's too bad. There's a few you can find on the Lost Media Wiki:
However, the ones I think people would want to watch the most aren't there: the show's first episode, Jon's first episode as a guest(it was on 9-12-1996 and used to be on YouTube but was taken down), and Stephen's first episode as a correspondent.
You probably know that JMS thought season 4 would be the last so he had to wrap things up in one season only to be caught by surprise when TNT picked it up for another. I'm guessing most fans would've preferred if he'd known in advance, although there might be some who think it worked out for the best. What do you think?
Ever since it was created Weekend Update has used news items to set up jokes. However, one thing I've noticed they don't really do anymore is jokes where the setup news item is also fake(“The Post Office announced today that it’s going to issue a stamp commemorating prostitution in the United States”) or where the fake news item is the punchline("It was announced that the small nation of Chad has changed its name to Brian"). Both examples I picked are from the Chevy era but I remember them doing these kinds of jokes into the '90s.
The references are a big part of the fun of watching MST3K. Do you ever watch old episodes and wonder what references they'd use if they were done today(I'm aware Rifftrax has re-riffed some of them)? I bet the Marooned episode would have a lot of Apollo 13 references if it had been done just a few years later.
I hope we can agree it's good to care about other people, but I think life would suck if we cared only about other people with no regard to our own happiness. What do you think is the right balance?
Looking at what songs were popular around the time the show ended I was thinking "American Pie", "Imagine", and Stairway to Heaven." Coincidentally, Breaking Bad's ending song, Badfinger's "Baby Blue", was released around that time too.
For those who don't know: the ZAZ trio based Airplane! on a '50s B-movie called Zero Hour! I think that makes it kind of like an MST3K episode in that they took a bad movie and used its unintentional humor for intentional laughs while adding their own jokes.
Sometimes I have dreams where I had a kind of brain fog where things like spelling and math are harder than in real life. Anyone else have dreams like that?
It's commonly known that Back to the Future Part II predicted the Cubs would win the 2015 World Series, but I was wondering what examples there were in print SF. One I know of is Robert J. Sawyer's Flashforward predicting the 2029 World Series would be won by a team called the Honolulu Volcanoes.
I know it's hard to imagine a different name but I wanted to get people's opinions on it.
I wonder whether, if Neil had been a part of the band from the start, they would've picked a more SF name. Coincidentally, there was a famous Canadian band around that time with a sci-fi name: Klaatu.
