Sooo, I am getting engaged and my girlfriend wants a trinket box for the ring.

I was recently browsing the antique store and found this lying around for $100. It was very expensive for a box but i just thought she would love it so i got it (it's very beautiful obviously).

At the store they said its probably French but couldn't date it. To me it looks pretty old, but i was wondering if any art experts had any other insight on what it could be. This thing is about 3x1.5x1.5 inches for reference.
