Hi everyone! I thrifted this at the goodwill bins the other day. The frame was torn up, but it’s still in its matting. The material seems like silk, but I’m not so sure about the origins/history of a piece like this. Please enlighten me!!
I don’t know much about paint but I find it hard to believe that this would be a 300 year old painting that I bought at a car boot sale. But do people often paint in the style of a certain artist like almost a fake and then sign the artists name? Bought in Polmadie, Glasgow, Scotland.
This artwork has been hanging at a local restaurant for years. Google image search brings up a lot of similar artworks but not the exact one. I don't have an image of the back as that would require taking it off the restaurant wall. I just really love the deer's face and want to know more about the artist.
I’m in San Francisco and have three matching framed panels containing 12 hand-colored botanical illustrations. From the French headings, I believe they may come from Jacques Daléchamps’s Histoire générale des plantes, possibly the 1615 or 1653 edition. Some pages say “Tome premier,” and printing from the reverse side is visible through the paper.
The sheets show fibers, uneven discoloration, and closely cropped edges, but I have not opened the frames. Can anyone help determine whether these are genuine antique book leaves, later impressions, or decorative reproductions—and whether the coloring appears old or was added later? The panels were framed by Manasek of San Francisco; the label is included in the last photo.
Hello,
I’ve recently came across this painting at an estate sell. The back comes with a COA. Any info on this?
Gemini seems to think it's a reprint. Was given as a gift, not sure if real.
I can’t decipher the signature. The painting is of the German town Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
The painting is about the size of a postcard and came from my grandmother belongings.
Would be amazing if someone can help with the name of the artist.
Long shot but maybe someone recognizes the signature/can make out what the name is. Bought it on the side of the road in Dakar Senegal. It’s painted on the inside of a burlap rice bag and it is possibly an older painting.
Looking for an ironing board for my daughter’s college apartment and decided to flip through the art really quick. At the back was this that immediately caught my eye. “Pat” is short for Patricia, an abstract artist of some renown. Not sure what the name or the series is, though. Needs a bit of TLC in a few places where the canvas was leaning against something at some points, but otherwise, it’s in great shape. Love finding original art (and not “decor”) like this!
Help identifying artist/signature on an older original oil painting 🖼️🎨🙏
Hi! I’m hoping someone here might recognize the artist/signature or be able to tell me more about this painting.
I bought this original painting in Melbourne, Florida in 1999 from a small antiques/unique-items type shop off US-1. The shop owner told me it had belonged to an older gentleman who was around 90 years old at the time.
It is an original painting on canvas, not a print. I recently had it reframed, so the frame shown in the photos is new and should not be used to date the painting.
I’ve included close-ups of what appears to be the artist’s signature, but I haven’t been able to decipher the name.
I would love any help with:
Identifying or deciphering the artist’s signature/name
Approximate age/date
The style or movement you would describe it as
Whether anyone recognizes the artist or has seen similar work
Any information about its possible origin or if anyone is familiar with this type of work
The outside dimensions with the current frame are approximately 23.5 × 19.5 inches.
I’ve owned it for about 27 years and have always wondered who painted it, so even a lead on the signature would be greatly appreciated!
Is this a mass produced painting? Cant find the name anywhere. So its not famous. I got it from an auction in virginia 20 years ago. Thank you
This painting was sold on marketplace before I could get it. But.. I need it 💔 I can’t find similar imagery only or the actual name of the artist. It just has Bustamonte painted in the left corner
Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but it looked like a welcoming and promising place to ask the question.
I got this years ago at a vintage shop or flea market. I interpret it as the woman sneaking the guy out of her window so whoever just came into the room doesn’t find him.
I’m curious if there are different interpretations, or if anybody knows what the picture is, or anything else about it. Basically anything! Thank you
P.S. If this is the wrong subreddit, can somebody point me towards the right one?
My parents picked up a fair amount of art when they lived in Europe during the 70s. I always liked this painting a lot. Probably just a local contemporary artist doing oils of rural scenes but thought I’d run it by you all. Thank you!
Please help! I can’t find the artist on this, hard to read the signature.
My guess is that this was painted by a hobbyist but could anyone help shed some light, pointers, clues to help me try to ID it or just learn a little more about the painting style, era, etc?
Came from: Neighbor's curb "FREE" in Lansing, Michigan USA a few years back
Best guess at signature might be "MMS," but I didn't find anything matching up with thAt and the style when I searched.
Did not find a date on front or back
From the back, it looks like it might've lived in a humid home with a smoker. 🤔🤷🏼♀️ It's quite dirty.
Any guesses? Thoughts?
Appears to say super rough sketch on the back but that’s all I can make out. Any ideas? Thank you!
I’ve been trying to identify the artist of these two oil paintings for quite some time without success.
Both are signed by what appears to be the same artist, and both are dated 1928. The signature seems to begin “Jos.”, but despite a lot of searching I still can’t confidently decipher the surname.
One depicts a man in profile with a rose in his mouth and is painted with very heavy, expressive impasto. The other is a scene of sunflowers with what looks like a pavilion, tent or fairground-type structure in the background.
I’ve owned and handled quite a lot of paintings over the years, and these two have always stood out to me. They are extremely well painted. The brushwork is remarkably confident, particularly on the portrait, where the face is built up with thick individual strokes of colour. The sunflower painting is quite different in subject but has the same assured handling and distinctive signature.
I acquired both paintings many years ago in Düsseldorf, Germany, but unfortunately have no information about the artist or where they were originally painted.
The reverses are covered with brown backing paper that was very neatly applied by a framer. I’ve deliberately left it intact rather than tearing it away. If examining the backs becomes important for identification, I can have them carefully opened, but I’d rather not disturb them unnecessarily.
I’d love to know whether anyone recognizes the signature, artist, style, school, or perhaps even the location depicted in the sunflower painting.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I got this gorgeous painting for only $4 at goodwill in central Texas last year, and it is one of my favorite pieces of art I’ve found. The yellows are so rich and even the frame choice is gorgeous. I can’t make out the signature, maybe Ames? I love looking at it every day, please help me identify :)
edit*** thank you everyone for your input, it is likely an amateur painting but I love it nonetheless :-)
