Seeking help with potential Jack B. Yeats – Oil on Board – Found at Essex house clearance

Hi everyone,

My brother-in-law recently picked up this painting at a house clearance in Essex. It is attributed to Jack B. Yeats, and we’re trying to figure out if it’s a genuine original or perhaps a later reproduction.

Specs:

  • Artist: Jack B. Yeats (attributed)
  • Medium: Oil on board
  • Dimensions: 45cm x 65cm
  • Back: Plain white board (no visible stamps or labels)

Given Yeats' significance, we know the odds of finding an original in a clearance are slim, but the brushwork and style caught his eye. The board itself is quite plain on the reverse side.

I’ve attached photos of the front, the signature, and the back of the board. Are there specific characteristics of his oil technique or the types of boards he typically used that might help us identify this?

Found this artwork for $2 at local thrift store

Found what seems to be an original sharpie sketch from Allen Ginsberg. It includes his signature and the date it was created. I’m not familiar with the person who made this. I was wondering if I should take it to be professionally evaluated. The art is inside a wooden frame with cardboard on the back.

Please Help with More Information

Hello. My mom found this painting at a fundraiser sale in Northern California about 15 years ago. About 10 years ago we were going through difficult times, and my mom was looking to sell the painting just to get some extra money. Thankfully we had an honest person at the thrift store, and they told us to keep the painting and get it checked out. We held onto the painting but couldn't afford to get it professionally evaluated. I've done research and have been able to find the artist: Frank Adams, but nothing in connection with the title Westward Ha on the bottom corner of the painting. In addition, all the paintings I've seen after searching the artist don't seem to match the same style. Now I'm just curious if anyone knows more about this painting in particular. Thanks.

JMW Turner - More Like This?

I picked this bad boy up at an estate sale a couple years ago. It’s such good quality and I would love to know where I can find more pieces of similar quality. Could this be a museum gift shop reproduction? Does anyone know approximately when this was printed? Any help is much appreciated!
(apologies if this is the wrong sub)

Painting bought at auction

I’m told my grandfather bought this at an auction in the NY area. Don’t see an artist signature. Any idea who the artist might be?

1974 oil painting signed 'R. Burge' — sourced from Phoenix-area Goodwill, hoping to identify the artist

Bought this at Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona. Signed "R. Burge '74" on the chair back. Oil on canvas, hand-stretched on bars labeled "Standard Brands Paint Stores" (a chain that had Phoenix locations in the 70s), so the artist was likely local to Arizona or the Southwest. I've searched the usual databases (Smithsonian, AskArt, auction records) with no luck. The work is skilled — clearly a trained painter. Hoping someone here might recognize the name or the style.

MCM Colorful Female Portrait

New member here — found this portrait at a Seattle Goodwill alongside a Ren Wicks that was identified previously.

The signature reads “Taylor or Thaylor” (possibly a first initial before it — hard to tell from the script). There’s also a cursive inscription on the stretcher bar side rail that I believe says art supply center. The back has what appears to be canvas size notation.

My best guess is oil on canvas, 1960s, based on the subject’s hairstyle, the cat-eye liner, and the frog-closure collar. The background is loose and gestural — feels intentional, not unfinished.

I’ve done a reverse image search with no results. Interested in identifying the artist, confirming the medium, and understanding the style/period.

Photos included: full front, signature closeup, back of canvas, stretcher bar inscriptions.

signed art, dated 1966, without info on back

A friend passed and he left a lot of art behind, much of it abstract and totally unknown to me. I did a cursory search and couldn't find anything definitive. I saw nothing on the backs or else did not want to tear open the framing just yet to check. Above is just one example of a wide range.

Thank you!

Odd but Beautiful Paintings

Hello everyone,

I recently got these two paintings in a office move. I can't really read the signature but the old coworker that gave them to me said they were expensive. Not trying to sell just trying to get more information on them as I love the art style and they will be hung in a new home soon. The signature says 20/250 and 195/250 so there are more copies of these out in the wild but google is no help. Any information would be greatly appreciated 👏

I inherited 2 paintings painted by my great-great-great-grandfather.

I inherited these two paintings. My grandmother told me they were painted by my great-great-great-grandfather around the end of the 19th century. He was supposedly an amateur, and I believe he never got to visit a coastline or the sea. They lived their whole lives in Central-Eastern Europe. Do those paintings remind you of something similar? I wonder where he could get the inspiration and knowledge… Also how can i preserve/ restore those paintings in their original frames?

Thank you

Estate Sale Piece - Looking for More Works From This Artist

Good Afternoon Everyone -
I picked this up at an estate sale in the DC area. The previous owner was a collector, primarily they focused on mid-century art. They seemed to like a lot of the impressionist and expressionist works of the time.

This particular piece is titled "Emillio, Lorenzo, and Enrique". The signature appears to be "S. Wrig..." with a little "60" over it. It is marked 2/10. The reverse shows the framing company to be "The Art Lovers".

I picked this one up because I found it to be a little spooky. I haven't seen a lot like it, and I thought it was an opportunity to grab something unique.

If anyone has any suggestions on who the artist might be, I'd enjoy learning more about them. Thank you for any help or ideas!

Possible antique hand-painted copy of Heinrich Vosberg’s “Alone” (1887)? Looking for identification/help

Hi everyone, I got this old canvas painting at an auction in IL and was able to identify the image as Heinrich Vosberg’s “Alone” / “Einsam und Verlassen” from 1887.

I found references online to an 1894 Chicago Tribune art supplement print of this image, but my piece appears to actually be painted on canvas rather than a paper print. Approximate size is 17x30 inches, which seems much larger than the known 1894 paper print versions I’ve found online.
Wondering your thoughts on this and if I should take to an auction house.

Painting found at goodwill bins signed “Windsor 68.” Does anyone have any more information on this artist?

I found this at the goodwill bins in Austin, Texas and I’m obsessed with it. It’s signed “Windsor 68,” in the bottom left corner. Appears to be an oil painting on a wooden board & measures 29” x 29.” The framing is really well done & modern as they’ve only been in business since 2000. Is it considered acceptable to remove the backing behind the painting in order to see if the backside of the board is signed? Excited to learn more about this piece & the artist!

Thrifted Laundry Painting by S.S.P.

I’m always on the hunt for real art at thrift shops etc and this little guy caught my eye! Found at a thrift store on the East coast, it’s an older painting I believe done in gouache of a woman on the coast hanging laundry. About 5”x7”. Signed in the bottom right corner in block-y letters is S.S.P. ( I believe). I opened the back and no further information. It is taped and mounted on a handmade mat made of cold press watercolor paper. I was trying to search online to no avail and wanted to try here!

Signed guyot received in junk removal job

I work in junk removal in SoCal and this was heading to the dump so I decided to save it. It was hanging on the wall in a couples house that seemed to have visited France multiple times based on the other stuff we found there. The house was sold as is with everything in it and the buyer did not want anything in it.

I’ve done some research and it looks like it’s by Jacques Guyot, I see a very similar painting on eBay currently at 1400 from what seems like a reliable source of vintage art. Mine has small differences in the way it was painted, such as a sail extending closer to the signature in mine and some of the little light dots on the smaller boats are different.

Confused on if it’s original or what it is really, the picture of the back open shows the canvas and paint on the side of the canvas.

ERTE piece acquired at yard sale

I recently acquired this piece from a yard sale along with a very fancy brass lamp. A site I found listing pieces by this artist is showing surprisingly high prices but I’m unable to tell if this is of similar quality. There appears to be a signature on the art side but I can’t tell if it’s printed on, nothing is on the back.

Does anyone know the story behind this piece or artist? I’m not planing to sell it or anything, just curious if anyone knows more. Thanks in advance
