Want to make appliqué

This is sorry of random, and I hope this is clear.

I was kind of thinking about making some applique to sew on clothing, kind of like little silhouettes to apply to bags or shirts, but I'm not 100% how to go about it.

If I just cut out the silhouettes shape, pin it to the item I want to sew it to, then run it through the machine, is that the best way to do it?

Or are there other techniques? I've seen people make like these cute sweatshirts and stuff with what looks like quilt block on top, but I haven't been able to find a tutorial. I figured the approach would be similar.

Also, is just regular fabric fine or are there other material/tools recommendations?

Weird scab/bump on goat ear?

Best picture i could get as a goat was trying to climb on my back.

This weird bald patch with a bump/scab appeared on my boy's ear a couple days ago. Should I be concerned? He had a scab on his neck too, so I'm paranoid this is some sort of illness I just don't know about and figured I'd see if this is anything I should be worried about lol
