Transcoding settings on MacBook M1
Anyone running Jellyfin Server on a MacBook Pro M1?
I’m using it mainly for local 4K remux playback to a Fire Stick 4K Max and LG C5. The LG Jellyfin app seems capped around 40 Mbps, so I’m leaning toward Fire Stick/Kodi for high-bitrate files. What are your recommended Jellyfin transcoding settings on Apple Silicon? Right now I’m prioritizing Direct Play and stability over transcoding. Hardware acceleration/tone mapping seems to cause issues for me, so I’m considering leaving HWA off unless needed. Library is mostly MKV, 4K HDR/Dolby Vision, EAC3 Atmos, with some TrueHD/DTS tracks. Storage is a WD My Book external drive connected to the MacBook.
What settings are you using for:
-Hardware acceleration on macOS/Apple Silicon
-Tone mapping
-Transcode path
-Throttle transcodes
-Fire Stick max bitrate
-Kodi + Jellyfin add-on vs native Jellyfin app
Main goal is avoiding buffering and avoiding unnecessary transcoding.
