Why do boomer women love to watch us struggle?
It just boggled my mind. “Well when I was your age…” etc and go onto say they had it so much worse. Like wouldn’t you want better for us?
We went out to dinner for my older child’s birthday last night. We do not go out very often due to cost, and the fact that my newly one year old is the embodiment of a hurricane since he learned to walk. But for a special occasion we do our best. My daughter chose our local hibachi restaurant, which I thought would work well to keep my little guy occupied. In fact, it did not until the chef started cooking. We went right when they opened so it was otherwise empty. Little guy did not want to sit, so I let him get his wiggles out in the lobby after we ordered and watched for the chef to come over. He did not want to sit in his high chair, so I held him on my lap until there was noodles and veggies ready that he could eat. Even then he much preferred to throw it in the floor, and I spent most of the meal managing him. My parents and aunt and uncle were also there, not one did any of them offer to help for a moment so I could eat. My husband of course offered, but the plan was for him to eat first and then take him home early.
Right after the chef finished, they brought out a cake for my daughter, then the bill with to-go boxes. I got to have maybe 5 bites, then gave up and put 90% of my dinner into the to go box. My mother looked over and said “so how did you enjoy your dinner?” And then laughed. My aunt laughed along with her and said “I didn’t eat a hot meal until my kids were in college.” All I said was “well I’m sorry to hear that.” Didn’t really land as everyone was leaving, but I simply don’t understand why they seem to be so chuffed with watching me struggle the entire meal.
