How do I find a Roommate at UT Austin?
Hi, I am Francesco, got accepted from UTAustin and signed my room contract approximately a month ago. I am 18 from Italy and will therefore come as an international student. Coming from the outside, the system on how to find a roommate at universities in the USA seems very strange to me and the question naturally pops up...how do I find one?
I saw that on the university housing website I had to fill out a preference questionnaire with sleep schedules, study schedules, cleanliness, and thats all good until they match you with people of whom you don't even know their name, their faces and you can't really contact them in a quick and easy way. The issue with the short question fill-out is that you can easily lie (especially on cleaning habits) and having no opportunity to directly interact with the people I got matched with makes me wonder if there is a better way. I saw some Instagram pages (class of 2030 type of thing) where you can post a couple of your pictures and fill out a bio with some of your info, but all of those pages are privately managed. They seem unreliable and not really functional as they have only a few hundred followers and only some girls are actually posting, making me wonder if its a male thing as well. I have no clue wether there is some chat I can refer to but thats mostly a European thing.
The questions come natural: how do a find a roommate? How do I interact with UTAustin Freshmen and find decent people with whom I can chat? How can I meet people from UTAustin that could potentially be my future roommates? Any additional suggestions?
