For folks who work from home/garage shops, how do you get rid of sawdust and scraps?

I've been working on some drawers and churning out alot of sawdust (chips really) and lots of cut-offs from my 1 car garage "shop" 😅 It's more than I can easily get rid of in my 1 residential tipper trash barrel in a week. I'm curious how folks with a similar set up get rid of sawdust and scraps. 🤔🤔🤔

Have you had luck giving away sawdust/chips? I've seen people try to sell that on FB marketplace but didn't know if there were certain kinds of wood that are more desirable for animal bedding (for example).

How about cut-offs? Do people take that for firewood (not PT/plywood of course).

Thanks!

Side mount vs undermount slides for kid bedroom furniture and other slide/drawer considerations

I need to build drawers and totally stressing about this decision 😅. I'm building a few dressers for a baby on the way. They'll have soft maple dovetailed drawers. Some of the wood has beautiful curly and ambrosia grain 🤩

My wife is more worried about budget and functionality, so she's fine with non-soft close side mount full extension Amazon slides (like $50 for 8 pairs). Part of me wants to do full extension, soft close slides so the kid doesn't slam the drawers and it'll show off the maple. (I'm the only wood nerd here haha). That's $200+ if I go Blum or other quality slides vs Vevor/amazon etc which still could be $130-150.

What's your preference for furniture that'll get lots of use? Is soft close worth it for a dresser? Is it worth losing a bit of drawer volume (for undermount hardware) vs sidemount which I've heard can be very sensitive to alignment/case squareness? For what it's worth the drawers will be wide around 33".

Any tips are appreciated!

PC jig half blind dovetails...how tight? Room for glue?

I'm building some drawers and picked up a used PC 4210 jig. I did a bunch of test cuts and thought I had it good to go (see pic) using extra stock of the same dimensions as my drawer stock. I had to tap them together with a deadblow hammer. I didn't smash it but it took a few whacks.

Then I went to cut my first drawer and I couldn't get the sides flush without going nuts with clamps 🤪 The sides ended up maybe 1/64" proud...enough that it was obvious but I could sand them flush with my random orbit.

Now I think I need to reassess! How tight should the dry fit be? Should the joint go together by hand or need a few taps? Should I adjust the template away since the sides are sitting proud, and if so would the adjustment be equal to the amount the sides stick up?

Thanks!

I have a few offset builds slowly in the works with Fender-style pockets. I want to build the necks (using preslotted and radius boards from Stewmac) but leave the option open for an aftermarket neck if I screw up or run out of time 🤔 I've never made a nut, so that's impacting how I want to build these necks.

I think a flat headstock with standard 1/8" nut slot would be easier to build but I'd have to make the nut (can't find a preslotted one in the 1 3/4" width I'm going for). Alternatively, I could build a neck with an angled headstock and use a preslotted Graphtech 1 3/4" nut. I'm assuming that might need some tweaking for optimal playability though.

I'm a little intimidated about making one to be honest! Just curious how many attempts it took to get your first decent nut made from scratch, and any other tips are appreciated.

I'm slowly fumbling though an electic guitar build, but wanted to make something quick and fun for my much more talented guitar-playing brother as a gift. He loves Jazzmasters so I made a cuttingboard with cherry veneer strips like strings. He loved it and suggested I try to sell on Etsy or locally or whatever.

A little side hustle would be fun and I have no aspirations of quitting my day job, but I'm a little worried about getting into legal hot water if a guitar shape is trademarked/copyrighted/patented (not sure of the legal aspects). Are there good resources out there maybe with a rundown of legally protected guitar shapes/designs? I've seen similar conversations go south online where people want Gibson headstock veneers or Fender decals etc. I have no intentions of building a guitar (or cuttingboard) and passing it off as Gibson/Fender etc.

Any tips are appreciated!
