Out of battery or overcharged?
I was shooting my Winchester model 97 today and this was only the second round. I’ve shot about a box of shells through this gun a few years back no problem.
The only issue with the gun was the ejector pin (the T shaped pin behind the ejector spring) because it was loose.
After I pulled the trigger the bolt came back and the carrier was stuck in the upward position. The slide action bar also disconnected from the carrier. The hull came out of the action but the brass and part of the wad was stuck in the receiver.
I spent a couple hours trying to line everything up to free the carrier and action bar so I could take the gun apart. I stripped the receiver and everything looked fine however the right extractor on the bolt was very loose. I saw no evidence of major damage.
Now that the gun is back together it will not lock close. I will be taking it to a gunsmith. Hopefully the gun isn’t toast.
I was shooting Winchester light target loads.
Anyone ever have anything similar happen?
