Running with ibs
So I’m a pretty frequent runner (been running a couple times a week for years) and am currently training for a marathon… I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to combat ibs symptoms while running.
During a run even as short as two miles, I have to stop multiple times to use the bathroom. Sometimes it’s so bad I have to freeze in my tracks and am unable to move without fear I’m gonna have, for lack of better words, an accident…
I’ve run two half marathons and have had to attempt to completely flush my system the days before with miralax or morning of with suppositories and during the race I still have to stop at least once for a bathroom break.
I’m nervous every time I sign up for a structured race that I won’t be able to finish due to having to stop running completely from the ibs. For the upcoming marathon I’m especially nervous since it’s so much money and training going into it.
For context I’m diagnosed with ibs-c so diarrhea isn’t my every day struggle (although it still sporadically happens). During runs is the most consistent time I am struggling with consistent diarrhea, otherwise chronic constipation is my typical struggle.
