Large Keycap Keyboards with Keyguards, when do they actually help?

Hello all! I’m curious how OTs judge when keyboard keyguards are useful.

This is a Clevy Keyboard 3 with a Clevy Keyguard. The keyguard creates a raised opening around each key, so the user can rest their hand on the keyboard without accidentally pressing keys. For some users, resting the hand instead of hovering can reduce shaking and make key selection more controlled.

It also has large keycaps and a physical 'Key Repeat Off' switch, so holding a key too long only sends one character instead of repeating.

For OTs working with adapted keyboards, AAC, schools, rehab, or assistive technology:

  • When does a keyguard make a real difference?
  • Do large keys usually help, or can they make movement harder?
  • And when would you avoid a keyguard because it slows someone down or makes typing more frustrating?
  • Are there any features you are missing on products like these?

Very curious to hear real experiences.
