I finally got the Olympus Camedia C-55 Zoom fully bent!

I started by breaking out the suspected camera sensor pins and testing combinations there (see profile for pics). That gave me the first melting/dragging effects and confirmed that I was probably in the right part of the image signal path.

After that, I moved closer to the analog-to-digital chip area and started experimenting around the CCD/ADC signal path. The soldering around that chip was honestly brutal. The pads are tiny, even under a microscope. I lifted a few traces and even had to remove some small transistors/components to keep going...

Somehow the camera survived, and that’s where the more stable and interesting bends started showing up: melting, horizontal tearing, color shifts and heavy image-signal distortion!

I still haven’t mapped every possible combination yet. These are just a few of my favorite results so far, and there were some other cool effects and a lot of colors but i just love the black purple lol. This camera has so much more to give!

Huge thanks to u/theglorioustopsail for helping me identify the ADC area. That pointed me exactly where I needed to look!

The final build is closed up in a 3D printed case now, but the exposed setup photo looked too good not to use.

Olympus Camedia C-55 Zoom – board photos for possible CCD/image-signal bends

Hi, I’m working on circuit bending an Olympus Camedia C-55 Zoom and wanted to share some detailed board photos in case they’re useful to others.

I’ve already bent a cheap AliExpress kids camera using an existing guide, but this is my first time trying to map a real compact camera myself.

I’m especially interested in finding good points for image glitches that actually get saved to the photo, not just LCD/display glitches. The sensor/CCD area seems to be around the CN104 / IC903 / IC906 side, but I’m not fully sure which connectors are sensor, LCD, or lens-control related. Testing while the camera is disassembled is not possible. Every disconnected flex cable is for the LCD/controls.

If anyone has experience with Olympus Camedia cameras, CCD bending, or can identify promising/risky areas on this board, I’d appreciate any advice.

I’ll test carefully with resistors first and document any working bend points I find.
