Official poster for Michel Gagne's hand-drawn animated feature THE SAGA OF REX, releasing in 2027
Gagne's message on his Facebook profile:
Over the past three weeks, I have shared the film with a few select friends and industry insiders (feel free to comment if you are among those), and the reactions and feedback have gone far beyond what I was expecting. I’m incredibly glad to hear that the film is connecting with those who have seen it in such a powerful and emotional way.
I’m also deeply gratified that all the work I’ve put into strengthening the story over the years has yielded the results I was hoping for. Without a strong and engaging story, The Saga of Rex would be nothing more than an animation showcase—and that would have been a failure on my part.
Years ago, when I first showed the film to people whose opinions I deeply respected, I received a lot of criticism about the story. I had to put my ego aside and take that criticism to heart. I’m very glad I did. Looking back, I can see how much those reactions helped me reshape and strengthen the film.
Today, I feel that I finally have a story I can be truly proud of—one that I hope will not only entertain audiences but move them deeply enough to bring a few tears to their eyes.

Children of Liberty is screening here too, along with the premier of animated feature MU-KI-RA and additional screening of Viva Carmen.
So it seems like Folivari is looking to put Children of Liberty in the competition for this year? Kinda confusing what their strategy is with it as they showed it Annecy but for some reason the Letterboxd rating embargo is still in effect for it. Seems like a really good consensus though judging from a recent sample.

VIVA CARMEN clip - YouTube / Global Constellation
Based on the world’s most popular and frequently performed opera, Carmen by Georges Bizet, comes VIVA CARMEN, an animated film by Sébastien Laudenbach, director of “The Girl Without Hands” and co-director alongside Chiara Malta of the award-winning “Chicken for Linda!”. This thrilling, feminist reinvention of CARMEN unfolds as a gripping adventure through
enigmatic encounters, rapturous love, and soul-stirring sacrifices, igniting the ancient city’s shadowy alleyways in a symphony of raw emotions. Seville's vivid tapestry becomes a dramatic canvas where youthful courage clashes with prophetic shadows, reimagining Bizet's timeless tale of passion, jealousy, and defiance against fate with a fresh perspective and emotional depth for a family audience.

Annecy Adds Special Screenings of 'ViQueens' & 'Children of Liberty,' 'Wakfu' Session & More
Annecy's site had a Children of Liberty entry up for a bit but then removed it, wasn't sure if it was just like a clip or WIP screening at first or the full thing since Folivari already has Viva Carmen this year. But apparently it's the full thing so consider it one more contender for this year (I'm gonna say probably not on ViQueens)

CHARADES is a big awards player, they financed both Memoir of a Snail and Flow, so their support here definitely gives this movie more heft as a Best Animated Feature contender
Neon has landed North American rights to Bong Joon Ho‘s first animated film, “Ally.” The acquisition reunites Bong with the company that backed his Oscar-winning dark comedy “Parasite.”
“Ally,” which has been in development since 2019, is expected to debut theatrically in 2027. In addition to directing, Bong co-wrote “Ally” with Jason Yu (“Sleep”).
Described as a “family adventure blending humor and emotion,” the story follows a curious and endearing piglet squid who is living in the uncharted depths of the South Pacific Ocean. She dreams of one day seeing the sun and becoming the star of a wildlife documentary. When a mysterious aircraft sinks into the ocean, though, her peaceful world is suddenly thrown into danger. Per the official logline, the film is “inspired by remarkable real-life marine creatures” and “explores themes of friendship and courage, as encounters between humans and the creatures of the deep reshape both worlds.”
