How to trim windows with uneven frame?
I'm trying to finish up renovations to my office before the summer heat starts to get in through every unsealed crack and I noticed that the trim on my window is pretty uneven. Before this was hidden by 3/4 inch styrofoam and ugly faux wood paneling so it wasn't until I ripped that off that I found the issue. The total size of the frame is 52x52 with each window w/frame being 24 inches wide. All parts of the frame extend past the drywall.
As you can see in the second image there can be some moderate variations over short distances, like the bottom of the right window frame pushing out to 1/2 inch for about 18 inches, or the 1/4 difference in the inner top corners of each window's frame.
I know the basics of how to trim a window with a frame pushing out past the drywall like this, like cutting a notch into the back of my trim so it sits evenly on the drywall and the frame, but is there anything special I should/could do to account for these variations in the frame? Or is it just "make it fit the part the extends out furthest, then shim the gaps and hide everything with the trim that goes on the inside of the frame"?
