The Character Creator Is an Insult to Actual Diversity and I'm Tired of Pretending It Isn't
Every single character looks like they were fed through an emulsifier and averaged into one vague humanoid blob. No distinct racial features, no clear gender expression, just a sea of ambiguous mannequins that don't look like any real person on earth.
I have a trans friend who is a woman. She wants to play a woman. Not a gender-neutral placeholder, an actual woman she can see herself in. I have a Black friend and a Chinese friend who are proud of who they are and want characters that actually reflect that. None of them are served by this.
Celebrating diversity means honoring what makes people distinct, not homogenizing everything into inoffensive mush so nobody can complain. When you strip out all distinguishing features you aren't being neutral, you're erasing the very identities you claim to be representing.
Just make distinct, detailed characters. Distinct men, distinct women, distinct ethnicities with real facial features. Let people build themselves accurately.
