Office busybody keeps using my computer when I leave for lunch
I have an office busybody coworker who keeps getting on my computer seemingly to check her email when I leave for lunch, and it’s starting to irritate me.
A little background: We used to be friends, but now we’re just “office friendly.” I had to step back from the friendship because she brought a lot of negativity and drama into my work life, and I asked that we keep things polite and professional instead.
Since then, there have been several times where it felt like she was looking for ways to get me in trouble, though it hasn’t really worked. Because of that history, I’m probably more suspicious of her behavior than I would be with someone else.
But, she has her own desk and her own computer up front. There are also several other open/shared computers in the back that she could use. But for some reason, when I leave for lunch, she goes into my office and uses my computer.
The timing is what makes it weird. She seems to do it when I’m gone, then is out of there before I get back, so she’s never actually sitting there when I return.
Today she was acting weird when I got back so I checked my browser activity, and sure enough- she was on my computer again.
As far as I can tell, she’s mostly just checking her email, but she is also the type who always knows everyone’s business, so now I’m wondering if she’s also poking through my browser history or just enjoying access to my office space.
We aren’t allowed to lock our computers at work, and technically I don’t think she’s breaking a rule. But still — why use mine? Why go into my office when there are multiple other computers available?
Am I being overly suspicious, or is this as weird as it feels? What’s the most non-dramatic way to make her stop without turning it into a whole office thing? There's nothing there to find, I'm just really not comfortable about it.
Hopefully she gets bored soon?
