Buyer being a pain over shipping costs wanting an explanation

I'm not able to post a screenshot for some reason, the photo option is greyed out, but a buyer contacted me today regarding some cargo shorts. He lives on one side of the country and I live on the other. He came to me asking why my shipping was so high, that he was curious. How he's really interested in these shorts though if I can make it cheaper. Suggested USPS Ground.

I told him I use calculated shipping, the cargo shorts weigh between 1-2 pounds (1.2 to be exact), we live on opposite sides of the country, and USPS increased rates last month. I use USPS GA.

I also pass my discount to my buyers and my dimensions are the basic 13x10x4 I use, so no goofy dimensions. I do have a $1 handling fee, but he was upset about a $5-6 difference.

He responded asking why mine is so much more then, because everyone else's shorts is $6 to $7 shipping. How he's been an eBay seller for over 20 years and knows how shipping works, that it doesn't cost that much to ship.

How I charge more than 99% of ebay sellers and that price hike or not, he wants to know why that is.

I blocked.

The answer to his question is obvious though. These sellers either live close or have a low flat rate for cross country shipping and lose money.

There's always a few people like this. Haven't had anyone tell me I must be doing something wrong with my business though and try demanding answers like I'm trying to be scummy and overcharge.

I just can't afford to lose $5 in shipping costs on a $20 item.

EDIT: I use a polymailer, not a box. Not sure why there's that assumption. 13x10 are polymailer dimensions. The 4 inches for height is a default to account for my thicker items. 2 or 4 inches for height with that length and width changes nothing for price of shipping and keeps me from measuring every single bag.

If you can afford better, I don't recommend Flyp

I've been using Flyp for over a year now. I couldn't afford the more expensive tools for reselling and really needed something that could help. At the time, I didn't care if it was perfect or not. I also had under 200 items so it wasn't too difficult to manage. They've since added more features, like easier crosslisting, autosyncing and auto-delisting (but only when the program is up and your computer is turned on) that have a lot of flaws, inconsistencies and issues that are not reliable. I've also more than doubled the amount I sell. It's not been a good combination for me as of late. I decided recently that tomorrow I'd move on to Nifty, since people praise it so much and it seems very reliable on keeping items connected between platforms when items are relisted and removing them everywhere when they sell.

I sold a shirt yesterday that I've had for about a year and a half. It's flannel, and not really the season for it anymore. I haven't had issues with Flyp not removing my items lately and had a lot more sales and things going on this weekend to have thought about double checking to see if Flyp removed it everywhere.
It did not. Today it sold on eBay. Such a long time and the wrong season, and it sells on two platforms to two different people on back to back days. I'm really wishing I would've moved on before now, but you live and learn.

But for newer sellers, I encourage you to find the means to pay for a better service if you're serious about reselling and have enough stuff to sell that you can't keep track of it all on your own. It'll save you a lot of trouble.
