anyone else kinda worried Black Flag remake might feel too much like Shadows?
not trying to be negative bc honestly I do think using the same engine/framework from Shadows for the Black Flag remake is a pretty smart idea
like on paper it makes total sense. the devs already have a polished base to build from, improvements can carry over, future games probably become easier to make, and ideally each game just keeps getting better instead of starting from scratch every time
but idk, the one thing that kinda worries me is that this could also lead to future AC games feeling too copy paste
one of the things I always liked about the older AC games was that they all felt different. sometimes in good ways, sometimes in bad ways, but still different. the animations, art style, UI, movement, combat, menus, general vibe, all of it. even when a game had issues it still felt like it had its own identity
and I think UI is a big part of that too. like icon markers, eagle vision UI, menu layouts, character customization screens, fonts, quick time events, button overlays, the way objectives pop up, all that small stuff. it might not seem huge on its own, but together it really affects how a game feels
with Black Flag, from what we’ve seen so far, I can already kinda imagine people saying it looks like Shadows with a pirate reskin. different map, different missions, different setting, but underneath its the same feel
and again I don’t think reusing the engine is bad. honestly it’s probably the right move. I just hope Ubisoft sees it as a starting point and not a template they’re scared to mess with
like use the tech, use the polish, use the improvements. but still make real changes game to game. different animations, different UI, different menus, different fonts, different features, different feel, etc. because if every future AC starts feeling like the same game with a new skin, I could see that becoming a huge pain point for the community
curious if anyone else feels this way or if I’m just overthinking it lol
