Weaning off Lexapro at 2.5mg
I have been on Lexapro a little over 3 months. Started at 5mg for the first 2 weeks and was getting night sweats so reduced to 2.5mg. After about 6 weeks noticed my mental state was improving and I had a lot less anxiety. Even at the small dose of 2.5mg, I was having very obvious benefits of a very even & calm mental state, way less intrusive thoughts. I am very sensitive to medications so makes sense why I get benefits from a low dose. Now it’s been a little over 3 months and in the past 2-3 weeks I’ve noticed that I’m gaining weight specifically in my abdominal region, and I feel like I’m slowly blowing up like a balloon despite a healthy diet and daily exercise (my exercise regime hasn’t changed). However I’ve noticed I’m craving carbs now all the time and I have a family history of diabetes on both sides of the family. I am worried I’m slowly developing insulin resistance. I have only gained 3-4 pounds but I am perimenopausal and sense things are only going to get worse from here so need to take action. What is the best way to taper: do I start taking 2.5mg every other day or cut the pills down into teeny bits of 1.25mg each per day?
