Question: Responsibility of Yard Maintenance & Applicability of the RTA
Seeking guidance on my current housing situation: I rent a room month-to-month in a house with access to yard, kitchen, bathroom, driveway. There is another person who moved in and rents a room in the basement (separate rent not shared). The landlord owns another property and primarily lives there, but they will periodically stay overnight or a few nights in the house I'm in (bringing their small dog).
Recently they have been politely prodding me to maintain the lawn as, "it would be a nice thing to do" but hadn't directly requested that I do so. I asked them directly, "are you asking me to maintain the lawn?" as I have had friends with similiar circumstances come to a rent-reduction arrangement for them to mow the lawn.
I do not have exclusive use of the lawn as the landlord has access when they come to stay (and evidenced by dog scat in the enclosed yard), as does the other tenant.
Based on the information I have provided, who would be responsible for the lawn/driveway maintenance, and am I considered a tenant or occupier do to the periodic shared usage of kitchen/bathroom?
