Looking for help/tips/pointers for my new Maelstrom Wanderer deck!
Hello again! I'm a semi-new MTG player (joined around January of this year) and have been absolutely loving it. I've usually just played with a bunch of different precons and I really wanted to try to build something by my own! Previously I've tried with [[The Ghoul, Gunslinger]] which was fun as it is, but not enjoyable enough for me to fully flesh it out and remains kind of niche. While looking for new cards, I thought about my favorites cards from my precons, specifically looking at [[Ashling, the limitless]]. Big dumb elementals are fun to me, and one of my favorite things was ripping a double cascade and hoping for something awesome. With this in mind, I tried to make a deck using [[maelstrom wanderer]], and after play testing it 4 times and winning each game, it's safe to say I really enjoy it! Does it make me a terrible dumb magic player? Probably!
Regardless, I'd love to hear what you think of the deck list and I'm looking for 3 key things:
First off, what bracket/power level would you even put this thing??? The main issue with cascade is that you could either rip open 20 massive creatures all with haste and trample on turn 5 or get absolutely nothing 12 turns in. Archidekt has it as a bracket 2, which I believe, but again, I went 4/4 last night against other similar bracket 2 and some bracket 3 decks and I'm wondering if I need to tone it down. Granted, removal was scarce (they're also pretty new players) and I don't seem very threatening because it takes a good chunk of time to get going, so I'm just curious.
Cascading into cascades are really fun, and one of my favorite ways to do this is by blinking my commander out and not paying mana cost to grab him back and do it all over again with cards like [[release to the wind]]. Are there any other cards that do that on the semi-cheap level that would be good additions? Additionally, for all you cascade lovers, are there any staples across magic history that I'm completely missing?
Since it's my 2nd ever deck I've made and my 1st deck using multiple colors, my land/mana base is pretty strange. I'm not sure how many basics and non basics to throw into it, or what other lands I should have (without breaking the bank). If anyone has any suggestions so I can learn for future decks, I'd love to hear that as well.
Thank you for any advice you all give and I hope the rest of your day is amazing!
