Flares in Verdun?

~10:30 PM on Saturday evening above Verdun, could've been near the canal, Côte st-Paul or St-Henri.

Couldn't take a picture because I was driving, but I noticed that the sky above Verdun/St-Henri was glowing red. At first I thought it was the sunset, but the sun had already set 1h+ earlier.

Don't think it was fireworks, the sky was completely red for a sustained amount of time (at least 2 minutes), you could also see what seemed to be flares falling down slowly.

Was there an event? Or was it just random people shooting flares?

First time I see this, I'm kind of curious. It was quite spectacular honestly.
