Hi so I'm 21 years old and I have ME/CFS, MCAS, hEDS, and some other comorbid issues going on. I'm mostly homebound and I'd say bedbound 60% or more of the time, but desperately want to feel at least a bit more productive with my life. Currently I pace myself to leave the house maybe once or twice at most a week, otherwise that tends to put me in a crash for many days after.
To try and see if I could benefit and go a little longer out of the house some days, I have gotten a pretty standard collapsable/adjustable cane. It does help on harder days for short distances but it doesn't give me that balance, support, and feeling of safety that I wish I had with a mobility aid. I've seen others with hEDS and other similar illnesses use things like smart crutches or lightweight wheelchairs, and have become curious on if those things could possibly help me.
I'm just worried about de-conditioning even more than I already have over the past few years, but also desperately want to find ways to get out more into the world. I will hopefully be starting physical therapy soon and I'm hoping that will help a bit, but I just wanted to get any pointers or advice on if my situation seems like it would be beneficial to have either of those aids. Thanks so much.
