Netting Fries

I need to change out my substrate but just recently discovered that I just had dozens of fries. Whats the best way to “chase” them down to transfer them to a new tank? They are so small and quick I don’t want to risk making a dust storm.

I had an issue with marbles leaking into the water and killing my shrimps. I tried taking out the marbles and my cycle probably crashed. I have 10 guppies in a 29gal and they have been okay. My ammonia was at 1 when I discovered my hornwort was shredding. I cleaned up the dead plants and I did 50% water change. I’ve been doing small water changes and testing almost daily to try to correct the ammonia and pH. I have a Tetra internal filter and has been there for weeks and a sponge filter for around the same time. My parameters are

Temp-76
pH around 6
Ammonia ~0.5
Nitrate and nitrite 0
GH 10, KH barely 1 (API test never turned blue)
TDS ~500

Right now I only have a few Java fern and anubias on the driftwood. I have some plants in another tank but I’m hesitated to add because last time I added some duckweeds and hornwort they started dying after a few hours.
I’ve been trying to fix it for days now but it seems like it’s not getting close. For now the guppies are moving normally but I’ve stopped feeding them since the problem was discovered. Suggestions are welcome.

I was using an HOB filter to cycle the tank before the shrimps and while waiting for my sponge filter to arrive. I’ve been running both in my 30gal tank for 2 weeks or so now so hopefully the sponge filter has accumulated some bacteria. I want to keep the HOB filter but I don’t want the shrimplets to get sucked inside but I also don’t want to crash the cycle. What can I do to prevent the shrimplets from getting sucked into the HOB?
