My PC has power on issues, is the PSU the culprit? Part 2 follow up after switching the PSU the problem has returned.

Hey,

This is a follow-up to an issue I previously posted about. Originally I had a be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000W PSU and suspected it was the source of the problem, so I replaced it with a Dark Power 14. After replacing it, the issue completely disappeared for almost a month.

Now the same issue has returned.

The first time it happened again with the Dark Power 14, I managed to get the PC to start immediately after switching power sockets and unplugging my second monitor (an AOC display). I wasn't specifically troubleshooting the monitor — I was just randomly eliminating possible causes. I'm not sure whether unplugging the monitor actually did anything or whether switching sockets was what fixed it.

What makes this interesting is that back when I was using the Dark Power 13, changing sockets also sometimes seemed to bring the PC back to life.

This time I also noticed a difference compared to before: with the old PSU I occasionally had to leave the PC unplugged for a long period before it would start working again. With the Dark Power 14, when the issue reappeared, switching sockets seemed to get it working almost immediately.

What is more, the computer service I used also could not find the issue when they turned on the old psu, everything seemed fine, the power on issue went away after switching psu's. they were testing the pc running with old psu and new one and everything seemed alright. they said its probably psu capacitors.

PC got cleaned there is not dust, new cooling paste so that we can write off too.

The other symptoms remain exactly the same as described below.

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • GPU: ASUS RTX 4080 SUPER TUF Gaming OC
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI
  • RAM: G.Skill Flare X5 32GB DDR5 6000 CL32
  • PSU: be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000W
  • Storage: Samsung 980 Pro (1TB + 2TB)
  • Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

Issue:
Sometimes the PC won’t power on at all — no fans, no reaction. However, motherboard RGB and front panel lights are on, so standby power is present :(

Behavior:

  • After being unplugged for many hours, it sometimes starts again ( case for dark power 13, not sure if 14 will behave the same since the 1 time it has occured the issue got fixed by socket switch instantly)
  • Once it starts, it works perfectly (gaming, restarts, etc.) + same
  • Restart always works +same
  • Sleep mode also works fine and avoids the issue +same
  • Problem mainly appears after being fully disconnected from power (no idea, i just turned off the pc but nothing out of ordinary)

What I tested:

  • Checked all power cables (24-pin + CPU) +
  • Tried starting via shorting PWR_SW pins → same result +
  • Minimal config (CPU + 1 RAM, no GPU) → same behavior +
  • Voltages in HWiNFO look perfect (12V / 5V / 3.3V stable even under load) +
  • Temps and system stability are normal +

Extra (no longer the case with new psu)
Sometimes I can feel a very slight “tingle” on the case. Tested 2 different sockets in the house. All other house equipment works perfectly never had an issue before. ( no longer the case, i dont feel any tingle on my pc anymore for past month) Idk if its the grounding issue, or something with the sockets itself but its gone.

Conclusion:
Intermittent no-power issue across TWO PSUs (Dark Power 13 → Dark Power 14). Motherboard? Wiring? Monitor? Running out of ideas.

I have had my laptop, my tv, my router, old pc, run on these 2 sockets before and it is the first time ever I have such issues and i live there whole my live.

Thanks!
