What should I know about hiring a debt lawyer?

I’m trying to hire a lawyer for person A, who recently received a Show Cause Order - Revival of Judgement for an old private student loan that they co-signed for.

Person B (original creditor) is afraid to reach out to the court or creditor as they believe the statute of limitations has expired.

I’m willing to hire a lawyer to help sort this out for them. What should I know ahead of time and how much should I expect to spend? Original loan amount was about $15,000 20 years ago, and last I heard collections wants about $30k now.

Just starting to buy cars at auction…

I’ve been flipping cars for years now. Buying them on market place at near scrap value and spending weeks or months getting them running and driving again theme selling for 60-70% profit margin. This has worked fine but it’s slow and I end up putting 10-40 hours into a flip.

I just joined IAA and bought a running driving car yesterday. I picked up a cashiers check, drove 1.5hrs away and towed it home.

After some minor repairs I’ll have about $1,750 in the car and it should be ready to sell in 10-14 days. I should be able to sell for $3,000-$4,000. Since I don’t have to dump a ton of labor into it I’m thinking about buying another car next week.

Question is: what do you tell people when they ask why you’re selling it? Normally I just tell them the truth or something close but now I’d have to say something like “got a steal at the auction and paid safelite to slap a new windshield on it. Replacement mirror came from eBay and I’m just trying to make a buck.”

Painting the bumper didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped but I guess it’s not terrible. I haven’t tried wet sanding or running the polisher over it yet.

The yellow flower beetle donated the engine for this car and after chasing some electrical gremlins it’s running like a top.

A bad fuse had 6 sensors giving erratic signals and kept the car in open-loop mode. Then the transmission was in limp mode, had bad G68 & G38 sensors. Swapped sensors over from a spare transmission I have and the codes cleared. Locked the trans into sport mode using VCDS and now it’s a fun drive!

Waiting for the title to come, look for it on Market Place if you’re interested in buying.
