D8 digital nomad visa from Canada

Hi there....I am considering applying for D8 digital nomad visa from Canada. Has someone done this process? I came across a few posts where US citizens had done this process, however, from online searches, it turns out the process is a bit different in Canada since they don't do VFS appointments for this but at the Portuguese Consulate. However, before going to the consulate, I would need to prepare my application. Here are my questions -

  1. What would taxes be like for me and my employer if I move there? I am. a full time employee working remotely and my employer can give me in writing that they don't mind me working from Portugal.
  2. What is the day-to-day cost of living in Porto? I barely meet the income requirements, I am not sure of the cost of living there. Google says it's 30-40% less but when I check rentals online, they are much more expensive than here. This was one of the things Google said is cheaper.
  3. What all documents are mandatory for the application? A one year lease to be submitted along with the application raises red flags for me?

Would appreciate whatever you can tell me about the day-to-day life in Porto or any other not so expensive city in Portugal. Thanks!

Just trying to understand karma a bit better

So they say whatever happens to you is your own karma that comes back. What you get is what you probably gave someone in some past life, but what about what you don't get? Ex: we often see cases where someone was preparing for some career and ends up doing something else. Students who don't end up getting a seat even after studying so hard for years but someone who studied for two months gets a seat. If hard work and sincerity do not qualify as good karma in such a case then what does? How would past life karma come in the picture in such scenarios where you put in sincere effort and yet you don't get favorable results.

This is just an example..... everyone goes through such experiences in life where they don't end up getting what they've worked for. Would like to hear other's opinions and thoughts on this
