TL;DR
I asked for advice regarding a friend who I play with often, who seems to be on the losing side of things more often than not, including a couple of games with big VP disparities.
My friend came over and I decided to briefly touch upon how he felt in regards to Killteam (esp. with how he's performing) and he expressed that he was fine and didn't need any coaching per se. Perhaps I was misremembering past games or just misunderstood how he felt in the heat of the moment, but he decided he was just performing poorly because he's been using new teams and was unfamiliar with them.
So we proceed to play and as was recommended, I played Pathfinders into his Murderwing. I selected Steal Intelligence as my Tac Op, as well as making it my Primary Op. I will say, I regret forgetting to take pictures.
TP1 was going okay, he was moving up, and I was throwing markerlights around. It ended though when my last move I was able to get a shot on his Champion (4 MLs) with a Railgun. 3 Crits, and only 1 save (he rerolled his fail into a fail); Champion dies.
I ended up spooking him from the left side, and he pulled his Depredator and Curseclaw back to re-engage up mid. The right flank I am able to put pressure on with a Railgun and Grenadier, he ends up losing his Lord by the end of TP2.
TP3 sees me lose my Shield Drone, who was trying to snatch up one of the Intelligence markers. He would then lose his Huntmaster, but he positions the remainder of his team pretty aggressively and in okay positions.
TP4 he is able to move in properly, and he takes out my ML Drone, Shas'ui, and Comms charging in with his Curseclaw and Depredator. He then drops in with his Skysear Melta and melts my right flank Railgun. I finish my right flank by snatching up an Intelligence marker, and after he whiffs pretty hard on his Shoot counteractions, I clean up his Curseclaw and Depredator, picking up another 2 Intelligence markers.
TP4 ended with the following
Crit: 3 v 1
Kill: 3 v 2
Tac: 4 v 1
We both chose Tac Op as our Primary, bringing the final total to 13 v 5, victory for Pathfinders.
We talked extensively post game, as we often do, and mulled over some possible changes to his roster (I came to understand that he was not running the usual suggested roster for Murderwing), as well as some mistakes and misplays made during the game. We both identified that pulling his left flank back was probably the wrong call, and some other things here and there that would've helped him score higher on Crit ops.
Not really asking for advice this time, though I suppose further insight is always appreciated, just wanted to share what happened for those who were curious.
