Confession: I collected every Kill Team before learning the rules

Confession: I collected every Kill Team before learning the rules

I have every Kill Team... and I have absolutely no idea how to play. 😭

This is probably going to sound ridiculous, but I somehow ended up collecting every Kill Team released so far.

The funny part? I barely know the rules.

I originally bought them because I'm a huge Warhammer 40k fan, and Kill Teams were the easiest (and cheapest... relatively speaking 😅) way to own lots of different factions for my Wrath & Glory RPG campaigns. Instead of just saying "a squad of Kasrkin appears," I could actually put the models on the table.

Fast forward to today, and I realized I have this massive collection... but I can't actually play the game.

I've tried reading the rules a few times, but they just don't seem to click for me. I think I learn much better when someone explains things in simple terms instead of throwing every rule at me at once.

So... would anyone be willing to help a very confused collector become an actual Kill Team player?

Any beginner-friendly guides, videos, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Finally jumped into KT with a steal!

I came across this beat up box in a Black Friday store today with a price of $150, back of box is in worse shape. Kept my excitement in check, was able to look through the box. EVERYTHING WAS THERE AND MINT. Made some comments about the horrible condition of the box and walked away with it for $100!!!!!!!

Hours later I’m still amazed. Now for the real question. What’s the best way to arm the models and any tips to be aware as my kids and I venture into KT. My daughter loves the bugs and my son wants death guard.

So happy and excited to join community.

First mini from Specter Squad done

Just wanted to share the first mini of the Specter Squad I've painted (minus varnishing and some additional basing with tufts).

I've put almost all hobby time the past few weeks into building the minis from Armageddon, so it was really nice to sit down today and just paint a single mini from start to finish.

I think I'm going to take my time and finish the entire squad before touching anything from Armageddon. To me its much more enjoyable painting this way than batch painting, even if that's considerably faster.

At the same time, really looking for to putting these on the table to play the Devlan missions cooperatively!

I'm hooked! WAAAGH

New to the Warhammer 40k universe!

My buddy (who played big 40k about 20 years ago) and I spent the last couple weeks going back and forth trying to decide which version of 40k to get into. We finally landed on Kill Team.

I just wanted to say thanks to this community. The posts, advice, and discussions here were incredibly helpful while we were figuring out both the game and which factions to choose.

I ended up picking Wrecka Krew and Kommandos. WAAAGH!

Door fight on Octarius

Hello everyone!

My LGS runs a league, and before GW brought back Octarius to KT, we still used it for some games. A must question was, do we use door fight or not? (I tried to make a consensus for all the players but the LO said that we must set it up in every game...)

Now, Octarius is again KT24 terrain, but GW didn't say if you can door fight or no. My doubt is if door fight was Volkus exclusive as it is an action in the Volkus part of the rules, and on TW, they explained again HWF, but there is no mention of DF on Octarius rules.

On the league we play there is DF, though.

How do you play it?

Pd. Sorry if not 100% correct English., not my first language.

Can Ork A and/or B shoot at X in any of these cases?

Hi, very new to Kill team and just played my first 3 games. Wondering about these scenarios and if the Orks A and B can shoot at X.

Is there a difference between these cases?

Thanks in advance!

Would you play KillTeam with this terrain?

Hey guys, I'm not a KT player myself, thus I'm genuinely interested. This started as a set of sci-fi "dungeon" tiles, than I designed some clips & girders to bash them into 3D terrain on the go. The whole set is pre-printed laser-cut MDF. I'll be launching this on KS soon ("Facility 404"), free STLs & PDFs will be available too.

I've only seen people playing on official GW terrain, I wonder if you can play on some 3rd party or DIY tables?

Red Terror (on Devlan)

I’m one of the seemingly lucky few to get a box. It’s taken me a while to get around to this and I’ve not even started the rest of the box yet but I had to spend some time on this fantastic piece. I glued the statue in the ‘wrong’ spot by accident but it just results in a more dramatic smash so happy overall!

I fixed the Exodite Release - Orks on Dinosaurs

I honestly don't dislike the release. I like NPOs and I think the focus around growing that side of the hobby is good. But Orks on Dinosaurs! Come on man. Orks on Dinosaurs vs Elves on dinosaur! Feels like an obvious miss.

I'm sure there's a lot of marketing an analytics that goes into it but these were fun to craft this weekend. Some tweaks I need to make and reprint like the staff broke and I snipped off a jaw by accident.

I'm pretty happy with them. Probably redo the shoota lad with a better pose at some point.

An epic Calvary battle woulda been a great box but at the end of the day it's just good to see exodites getting love. Perhaps dino orks woulda just stolen too much spot light.

Rules questions about Nemesis Operatives solo play

Hi everyone,

I just played a solo game of the Nemesis Operatives expansion and have a couple of questions.

  1. Datacards for regular operatives – I couldn’t find any datacards for non‑Nemesis operatives in the expansion book. I used the ones from the core rulebook, but I’m not sure how to assign a point cost to them for reinforcements. How is that handled?

  2. Determining enemy actions – This is the bigger issue. I understand the activation rules, but consider this situation: I’m playing the Phobos Strike Team and use Guerrilla Warfare almost every turn, so I’m almost always in Conceal. That makes it pointless for the enemy operatives to do anything aggressive – they’re better off staying in Conceal on their positions and waiting for me to come closer before acting. In my last game, I spent an entire turn just moving toward objective markers while the enemy did nothing, because they were already in the best defensive spots. That doesn’t feel right – am I missing something?

  3. Related to the above – If I understood the rules correctly, in the mission Erosion of Power, the enemy is deployed across their entire territory (excluding reinforcements), so they don’t even need to reposition to hold favourable positions. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

is kill team leaning towards being a solo/coop war-game?

i will preface this by saying that i'm not the most biggest kill team fan, i got the 2022 starter set a week before hive storm was released and ive been playing it on and off ever since.

anyways, has anyone else noticed that some of the most recent releases DEFINITELY tend to lean towards NPOs and solo play, i mean first we had the "sniper" missions after hive storm got released, after that i believe there was the shadowhunt NPO with the c'tan shard, then we have nemisis operatives being introduced and 2 new box sets with half of the contents being NPOs (red terror and the exodites).

does anyone think that kill team will turn into something much more reliant on team play rather than actual pvp or are these recent releases just outliers?

Will we be getting another dwarf team?

Hey everyone! I'm a big fan of the dwarf teams but both of them will be rotated out in a year and a half so I was wondering what the chances are that we will be getting another dwarf team before that happens.

I know of course that nothing is certain yet just want to know more experienced players opinions

Blood Angels Murder Wing

Is this the most optimal load out? No, not at all. Is it fun? Absolutely.
