200 million fools

Why do we think that we are owed a functioning country? What have we as a people done to deserve such a privilege?

Just because you see other parts of the world having some sort of functioning society, we believe that it is our right, the same way a poor man will see a rich man and think he has the right to be rich without doing what it takes. That is why we are a nation of beggars, begging for money, begging for food, begging for government to help us.

Why would the government fix our electricity problem when we have showed them we can survive on generator. Why would they improve our transportation when we are happy to drive in cars with no seatbelts. Why would the politicians create a progressive manifesto when we only care about their tribe and religion that they practice.

We have won no wars, we haven't invaded any countries, in fact we are the ones invading ourselves yet we talk as if we should be a prosperous country.

We are resilient people and that's all we are, we can't fight for change, we can only shout at eachother for trivial things. The government doesn't respect us and rightfully so, the same way a madam will treat her house maid is the same way the government is treating us.

The complaining is too much, can we just accept our reality and stop this entitled behaviour. If you want change then start off by changing yourself and how you view the world, look at how you treat people poorer than you, look at what your priorities are.

Change doesn't happen overnight, you have to make a conscious effort and be dedicated. Nigerians simply do not care enough, they just want to be fed, pay their rent, get married etc. We will never see change, all we will see is very slow, natural progression.

In 20 years we will still have poor roads, poor electricity, poor healthcare but since we are so resilient our population would have doubled in that time and then we will be a country of 400 million fools.

Death & innovation

I have a theory about why the world is the way it is and would like to know your opinion.

I think that the contrasting ways Africans and Europeans see death, is the reason why our worlds are so different.

Europeans view death as the complete end of life or they believe in an afterlife where you will live forever either in eternal suffering or eternal peace. These concepts give them an existential dread and they subconsciously strive to avoid death completely. When someone dies in Europe, they want to know how they died and how technology and science can stop it in future, even if it's something natural. This behaviour forces them to constantly improve quality of life with a subconscious aim of cheating death. The technology isn't available for them to live forever but everything they are doing in the present is for that become a possibility in the future. European funerals are sad and depressing and they bury their dead in grave sites amongst strangers, they wear black, the funerals are very quick and are never celebrations.

Africans on the other hand, without European influence believe in concepts like reincarnation or the flow of nature, life doesn't end it is passed on to a new generation. When someone dies in Africa we mourn them immediately but then prepare for celebration. We also fear death but I believe we accept it more than Europeans do. There is no motivation to change our circumstances, it is just a part of life. We want to live long so we can enjoy life, Europeans want to live long because they are scared of dying. We therefore value life differently, life is more precious to Europeans because to them it is fragile but to Africans (subconsciously) we never truly die.

Now that we have been exposed to European ways of life, we now also view death in a similar way and are in a constant battle with our contrasting philosophies about death. We expect the government to improve infrastructure and make us safe but at the same time we will risk our lives every day by driving without seatbelt or taking okada on dangerous roads. We simply do not care about safety because we are not motivated by death but at the same time we know that safety avoids death so we should adopt safety measures. For that reason our continent will never truly advance by European standards (which is not necessarily a bad thing), we will just pretend to advance. Europeans on the other hand could advance to the point that it ends up being their downfall because you cannot truly cheat death and if you try to, there is always a cost to pay.

I know am generalizing and oversimplifying here, there are deeper concepts to explore but this is just the summary of my theory. If it seems valid I might do real research and write a thesis.
