I’m writing here since it’s a Sunday and all the veterinary clinics are closed. We’ll message them tomorrow to check regardless, but if the situation requires urgent attention we’ll take her to the ER.

Our lovely approx. 6 month old (adopted so we don’t know her exact age) kitten got spayed on Wednesday. Since then, I’ve been monitoring her incision daily, and I noticed it looking a lot worse today than it did yesterday.

There seems to be a brown ring around the incision site, along with some redness and tiny black/brown specks.

I was hesitant to try cleaning it at first (so as not to cause her any additional discomfort in case it was in fact infected), but after doing some googling I felt as though it was an apt way of determining if the brown colour was simply blood.

I tried gently cleaning around the incision with saline solution (as instructed I had been instructed to do by the vet if needed), but the colour wasn’t lifting.

I’ve attached a link that leads to pictures from each day of her recovery so far.

Brief recap from the surgery up to today:

After the surgery, she wouldn’t leave her incision and the patch the vet had covered it with alone. We tried to make her a sock onesie while we waited for the vet to reopen, which she absolutely hated and proceeded to break free from. We got her a cone as soon as we the vet opened and that was that.

Nothing of note happened on the day after the spay. In fact, she hasn’t really exhibited behaviour or symptoms, besides a bit of a loose stomach that came and went on day 2. She’s been eating normally as well, if not better than she did before the operation.

We did have to switch out the collar that came with her cone to her harness, since it couldn’t be adequately tightened and she managed to get her jaw stuck on it while in a post-poop frenzy. This took place around Friday night.

Thank you in advance for any and all advice and input.
