Were the old games just as hard to create as modern games?

I've been thinking and what's the difference between 2000s games and modern ones maybe what the art style the game play the mechanics the story and do they even have a difference.

It's just that old games are some 2D and I was wondering how do you go from pixels to today's 3D ultra realistic games not every one but some.

What changed the tools the art style or did people get better at it?Bc if I was to try to recreate that right now it would be 10x times harder than to create a modern polished game.

Were people just lazy back then did they not know how it should've looked bc some are pixels and some are kinda pixels but more polished and 3D for example pokemon FireRed or Emerald I personally think they nailed it and it was one of the best games I've ever played

So tell me what changed?

What made you actually start making a game?

I've been only able to play weekends and for a month or so I've been putting it aside constantly I think of game ideas cool mechanics and stuff but they just keep stacking and I keep not building.I start playing I say tomorrow then either something pops up and Im busy or I just put it for next weekend like I have so much motivation at night and then when it comes im just so bored and uninterested I don't know is coding making stuff or designing stuff actually fun?Like I'll be happy if I build a game but is it worth the exhausted nights and I've coded python for 2 days straight back last month when I had some time it was fun but I was asking chatgpt to help me and yk he can't code anything and is just pretending to and my eyes really hurted from that hopefully it's just because I was seeing so much text but if this is the same like next time I don't think in actually gonna do solo anymore but these week in pushing myself and I've installed some apps for learning to code and I'm currently learning HTML?I'm still just a begginer so I'm learning closing tags and the best code I can do is some text on the screen and how big it is nothing else probably what was up before was me being lazy but I was trying to straight up jump to things like multiplayer and get the right code I don't think I'm the problem here it's the fact that google can't help you I don't have any friends who code or stuff and you either have to follow the algorithm or straight up give up.I guess I'm gonna start learning everything now and I was more interested in modeling stuff before but imma do that some other time or team up with someone I seriously need a good game development friend but I feel like some of your friends actually being coders or stuff is super rare and you're always on your own or go start asking in random servers and see if you can friend them.Tho tell me guys how did you actually start making stuff, how did you learn and did you have any friends who helped you?
